What writers would you want for new trek series?

Not as a writer, but it would be cool to have an actual astrophysicist like Neil deGrasse Tyson as a consultant. I remember back during the TNG days it used to be a point of pride that Trek consulted actual scientists about some of the science used in the show.

I want writers who have never written "Star Trek" before. Or writers that aren't huge fans, who'll bring a new perspective to the property.

Would love to see Heinlein over-write the supposed socialist Federation (that some fans see) with his libertarian views. He went to the US Naval Academy, so Starfleet Academy stories would reflect that, and he was (briefly) a Naval officer, so the "Starfleet isn't a military" could (please) go out the window.

George Lucas

In R. Roddenberry's Trek Nation documentary, he offered praise for Star Trek, and I have wondered ever since what serious treatment he might do to honor his creations oldest rival, if given a chance. Just one episode...

Seconded. Enthusiastically.

And since we can't get Heinlein, how about Spider Robinson, maybe. He did a pretty good job with Variable Star a couple years back.

Even if they don't write the scripts, I would like to see science fiction writers write the stories the scripts are based upon. :techman:

What kinds of comments has Lucas typically made about Star Trek?
I remember some interview where he said something like, "Wellll... Star Trek led the way to 2001, and 2001 led the way to Star Wars." It was kind of a roundabout acknowledgment.
