What would your TNG movie be like?

Yeffrey

Lieutenant Junior Grade
TNG was and is my bread and butter when it comes to Trek past and present. 14 years ago (!) when they cancelled it, I was disappointed to say the least but full of youthful optimisum that a movie was on the way.

Yay! TNG on the silver screen! But they had to resort to the TOS crew to hold half the movie cuz the studio wasnt confident enough in TNGs fanbase. Plus the destroyed the Enterprise

Then FC came out; the best of all the Trek movies to date. The simple story of a vicious enemy hell bent on destroying humanity at any cost stopped by the man hell bent on revenge. Action story, and plenty for all the cast characters to do.

INS and NEM. What can I say about these two pieces of rotting crap? A movie about a morally ambiguous plot with aliens nobody cares about. And another written by fanwankers with plot holes big enough to fit the Exxon Valdez through. This is also where they turned the franchise into the Picard and Data show.

My favourite show of all time got the shaft when it came to the movie treatment. So I got thinking, what would make a great TNG movie. One of the first things that came to mind was the episode "Conspiracy". I thought that had this been a movie script stretched out and involving more governments, characters, etc... there would be at least one more TNG movie worth watching over and over again.

What about you fellow Trekkers? Any ideas? And yes I know that Trek 11 is coming out, I just want pure TNG answers for this one.

In my movie, Picard and company begin on the bridge talking about how The Wrath of Khan is the superior movie. Data says something like, "The Motion Picture was superior to all of our movies, too" and everyone nods in agreement. Then Riker says, "Undiscovered Country, too" and Picard nods and says, "Great movie." Then Worf says, "When you think about it, TOS is clearly the superior series, and even Final Frontier is better than any TNG jank." And they all agree. Then Wesley Crusher says, "I thought First Contact was better than Wrath" and Picard flies into a rage and orders the boy beamed into space and fired upon with photon torpedoes. Then Picard starts talking about how he wished he was as cool as Jim Kirk, and Data admits that Spock is better than him. Then for the rest of the movie, they watch an episode of TOS on the viewscreen.

Also, but in the middle of the movie, there's a scene with Troi and Bev Crusher, with some funky music and there's oils involved.

One way to end the TNG movie series would be to have a grand adventure a la TMP. The Enterprise is thrown into the far future, at the time when the universe is dying and collapsing back in on itself. The ship eventually finds a way back home but must wait until the last minute, when the collapse is nearly complete...and when they engage the plan, it fails, and they are all killed by the universal collapse...but the Enterprise becomes the nucleus of matter that causes a new Big Bang, with the organic materials provided by the crew becoming the source of life in the new universe.

I'd see that. It would be great just to have these characters all lounging on the bridge, maybe with a cooler full of beer, shooting the shit about how much they suck. More plot: Picard has diverted the Enterprise to the planet Doobie IV, where Commander Riker will lead an Away Team to the surface in order to procure large amounts of high-quality space weed. The mission is a rousing success, even though the ship must fight off several Pakled vessels to keep their stash. They then continue en route to planet Cheetos III, and stop by the Local Group Record Store to pick up some tunes for the ride. Unfortunately, they get distracted when they pass a space park, and the movie ends with the senior staff playing hackey sack while Wesley is sent off to find some munchies.

And here I was convinced that I would never like a TNG movie!

Seriously though, try as I might I can't think of any story I'd like to do with them in particular.

Another great TNG movie would be to simply remake the Beatles' movie, Magical Mystery Tour with the TNG characters and sets. Same music and everything...imagine Picard rocking "I am the Walrus"? I would love to see that.

Two comments:

1) Love it, that's classic

2) Sounds better than ST XI

Ok scratch that. I just thought of something.
Maybe the TNG crew gets tried by a starfleet court of a crime they didn't commit. They then escape from the maximum security prison facility on rura penthe to the Orion underground. There still wanted by federation authorities the crew survives as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem and if you can find them maybe you can hire....

wait a minute... there's something awfully familiar about all this....

The problem was that TNG had pretty much run it's course by "All Good Things..." and there really was no demand or reason to do TNG movies. TOS on the other hand was canceled and still had a lot of steam left to it when they did their movies.

A lot of episodes like "Descent" or "Yesterday's Enterprise" would have been superb movies.

Call me crazy, but I'd have love to have seen a fleet battle or the Enterprise leading a fleet of ships on a mission. Make the main focus be on the Enterprise and her crew, but a couple of other ships and their crews helping out would have put an interesting spin on things...

:wtf:

Somehow, I suspect the DS9 and VOY fans in the audience will have a REALLY hard time dredging up a bunch of sympathy for you there, friend.

Myself? I am positively STUNNED that anyone would have the balls to say that TNG 'got the shaft' when it came to Trek movies.

Or...at least say it outside the TNG forum, anyway.
