What would you use the holodeck for?

Would you use the holodeck for sexual purposes?

The Orville posed an interesting holoprogram that I think socially awkward people would use. Practice hitting on women or other forms of social interaction. With fine tuned amount of resistance.

The idea of using it for social practice in general. It could be a very useful tool for people to get direct social feedback to help detect and eliminate negative things people perceive in them without realizing it.

Sounds like when the Doctor tried to teach social skills to Seven using the holodeck.

I would use it to bask in the sun. I think I would miss sunlight a lot living on a starship. I once visited a waterfall deep in the middle of nowhere in Cameroon and it felt like the most refreshing water I ever felt. I would experience that again.

Although sexual activities might be...interesting, I don't think I could enjoy anything along that vein knowing that someone with higher ranking could override security and walk in at any minute.

On the USS Enterprise and USS Voyager we saw the Holodeck as a sophisticated suite that utilized holographic projections, photons and forefields to simulate apparently almost anything.

1. What would you use the holodeck for?
2. Could it be used for sexual purposes/orgies?

It seemed that it could be used for recreation, official business, parties and research simulations.

We saw Riker suggest (2) in TNG: The Perfect Mate. Frankly, I'm surprised that anyone having just visited Counsellor Troi, didn't immediately go to the holodeck afterward to meet her again!

Thoughts? Would you use it to make out with your crush? The possibilities seem endless! Was this encouraged on starships?

Yes, this is just insane. The only people that should be allowed to open a holodeck door when it's in use should be either the police (if it's to prevent a crime or arrest a criminal and only with a warrant) or paramedics/nurses/doctors if they have a good reason to suspect that someone may be dying. Anytime someone enters a holodeck for no good reason it should be considered a felony.

besides the pleasures of the holo flesh, there would be endless missions on the original enterprise, and perhaps holographic barber shops that could cut hair without endless yakking,

A replicator could replace your hair with any kind of hair you'd like, thick, thin, straight, curly, red, blond... each hair grafted to the skin and it would look totally natural. We're almost there already! Except for now, it takes forever as each hair has to be grafted separately. A replicator could do all of them at once in a matter of seconds!

sickbay could regenerate the dormant follicles in a matter of minutes and control the growth like the voyager emh did for seven of nine

True. But that's assuming there are dormant follicles, to begin with, However since there are still bald people in the future (Picard, Zimmerman), we must assume that some people ignore the possibilities offered them and lose their hair by choice!!

They all just want to look like their hero, Captain Robau.

I can't think of any reason why I wouldn't use a holodeck for sexual purposes. In fact I imagine it would be one of my (and many others) primary reasons for purchasing one. Or earning enough credits to exchange for one or whatever.

I hear they're getting closer and closer to making sex-robots with an AI that will perform sexual acts. These robots will feel a lot like a real sexual partner and even adapt their talk and their moves to a specific person.

Barclay would like to have one of those robots - maybe android like with Deanna's face....:D

If I had a holodeck, I'd probably be using it like I use Netflix, to watch Star Trek and a few other shows I like.

Imagine, if you will, sitting in your comfy chair watching things as if you are there instead of seeing through a screen, none of the characters would interact with you but you would be right in the middle of every scene, and as the scene changes or the camera angle even, it all revolves around and resolves around your sight.

The question is would the holograms be solid or just light that you can put your hand through. The real challenge IMO will be to make solid holograms that will have the same texture as the real thing.

I'd think they'd be just as solid as the actors were but there would be no set edges, so that other side of the Enterprise's bridge would always be there if I turned to look.

Yeah but are they self-cleaning and can I take 'em home to meet the mommy and daddy? Won't they both have a complete metal breakdown?

Now, if they could make those robots perfectly track and copy another person's movement remotely.

I wouldn't trust remotely controlled robots. For one thing, they'd be hackable, psychopaths could use them to commit crimes, with little risks for themselves.
