What would you use the holodeck for?

Yeah but what's the point of social position when you can be as popular and get as much sex as you want... on the holodeck?

Put simply, tricks of light and pre-programmed sound bytes can never be enough to satisfy. Indeed, a Man needs something far more substantial. Yes, I know how difficult and complicated women can be, at times. How well I know! But, my friend, there's just no substitute ....

I honestly think the invention of holodecks would really decrease people's desire to go on dates with real people, and might be detrimental to Trek's society. Not just for sex but for romance and friendship as well.

I think the only people we saw doing anything like this was Reg and Nog. With Reg it was regarded as a sickness, and with Nog it was just sad and something he eventually stopped doing on his own. Nog got on with his (real) life.

Having said that, lots of people walking around on the same deck as the holodeck seemed to have smiles on their face...

Of course I'd use it for sex, that's the first thing I'd do. There are many non-sexual things I'd do as well but using it for sex is a no brainer, humans in TNG have been portrayed as lots of things but never not horny.

Besides the obvious I would probably use it to recreate scenes from movies which I could participate in. Something far more interesting than the boring people in the 24th century would do.

I’d use a holodeck for everything I currently use my other devices. Online shopping, looking up holiday destinations, researching history, indulging in my interests, and titilation.

It could never replace relationships, or really satisfy curiosity about real people.

I would use it for all the things I’m afraid to do in real life. Sing in front of a crowd. Reinact scebes from Dirty Dancing. Try my hand at stand up comedy. Participate I’m historical reinactments of the French or American Revolutions.

It sucks to think something with so much potential to help you learn and grow (the seemingly most important aspect of life in the 24th century) would be boiled down to just a way to get off. It’s one thing to use it to seek companionship or to escape loneliness like Barclay, but just for sex?

I would love to think we have advanced beyond that by this point. Probably an unpopular opinion, but whatever.
