It could work. The Federation knew about the Borg long before Q Who. 7 of 9’s parents were even researching them before it. Just because we didn’t see it happen on a show or movie, it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. We just didn’t know about it.

Also it’s a show, it’s not real historic events.

I would be okay with using the Borg. I was skeptical about their inclusion on ENT but I wound up enjoying that episode. I thought ENT brought back the early TNG take on the Borg that was lost after First Contact and Voyager. I think the Borg could fit very well on this show.

And saying the Borg became just a plot device is like saying the Klingons on DS9 became just a plot device. It's really the other way around. The Borg began as just a plot device, literally, and eventually became villains.

Yep, from unstoppable force of nature that almost beat the Federation to watered down, overused, poorly executed, mustache twirling (in the case of the borg queen) villains that couldn't defeat a single starship.

I know that they are a TNG-era thing, but this series isn't exactly sticking to established canon!

Imagine what they could make the Borg look like with today's special effects? They could make them look look emaciated and disgusting. Think David Cronenberg.

I would ask: "Who in the hell let Rick Berman/Brannon Braga write an ST: D script?...Dammit!"

Torn on it. One one hand I would LOVE to see them in 2017. Reimagined and probably extremely cruel and lethal, not like Voyagers joke. On the other hand.. Yeah they don't show up until TNG.
