What would you name your Runabout?

I have also always wondered if any runabouts were named after non earth rivers?

In season three, after another Runabout is lost, Kira says "it's a good thing Earth has so many rivers."

Can't remember what ep that's from.

"Family Business"
Thanks Candlelight and Jono; I do remember that now. And od0_ital thanks for the info from the relaunch novels, I don't remember it, but I like the idea. :)

Would there be confusion if names like Colorado and Missouri and Ohio were used? Named after states or rivers? Or previous ships, for that matter? Or does it matter?

Given it's been established they were all names after rivers I think fans would be smart enough if Missouri or Ohio appeared. :)

The in universe problem is that it's very likely that river names shared with States have already been used for Starships named after the States. So they wouldn't be available for Runabouts.

Yeah that's exactly the thing I was thinking.
Can't have a runabout USS Colorado (the river) if there's already a cruiser USS Colorado (the state).

Uhst-with

(th sort of more like an f sound than a v. but still sounding like th. if that makes any sort of sense)

Can the Universal Translator handle Welsh?

My runabout?

The Susquehanna, definitely. It's the river that runs through central Pennsylvania. It's where Three Mile Island is, Harrisburg sits on its banks...and I grew up near it, so it's pretty dear to my heart.

The Mormons consider it important, too, from what I hear. I believe it's supposed to be where Joseph Smith got the gold plates for the Book of Mormon.

Damn, Rush stole Susquehanna(h). Though I'll note that it was Susquehanna County (extreme northeast PA, nowhere near the river) that Smith "translated" the gold plates, but he actually "got them" in Palmyra, NY.

Anyway, I'd obviously have the Tennessee. ;) Also Holston and maybe French Broad after the two rivers that flowed near where I grew up.

Tam or Song. :shifty:

Well, I looked it up in Wikipedia--and I stand corrected. However...

The Susquehanna River holds importance for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the location where Joseph Smith, Jr. and Oliver Cowdery received the priesthood from heavenly beings. On 15 May 1829, according to section 13 of the Doctrine and Covenants, they were visited by the resurrected John the Baptist. Following his visit, Joseph and Oliver baptized each other in the river. Later that year, they were also visited near the river by the apostles Peter, James and John, as alluded to in sections 27 and 128 of the Doctrine and Covenants. Both events took place in unspecified locations near the river's shore in either Susquehanna County, or Broome County.

Side note: Kestrel, I'd say you're welcome to "Susquehannah". ;)

If I had a second runabout, it would be the USS Thames. I can then say to my XO that I fancy some "punting" on the Thames.

Oh man I had no idea just how long the Susquehanna is. Or how old for that matter, very cool.

Also, alternate older spellings. That's what I get for looking at old maps and spending more time living next to it than looking at new maps. :p

My second runabout would be named either the Monongahela or the Allegheny, the two rivers which join to form the Ohio.

If I didn't have to have a river name, it would be the Runaround Sue. Just because it's a runabout.

I think I'll stick with Nevada rivers, in honor of my current home. My choices are:

Colorado (already discussed, and I'll pass)
Virgin (think they're already in the transportation business)
Muddy (not the most dignified name)
Truckee (I kind of like the sound)
Amargosa (sounds almost like an alien name)
Owyhee (no idea how to pronounce that)

I think I'll go with Amargosa, with Truckee a close second.
