What would you like to see in the second season of The Orville?

It should be darker! And edgier! Haha. Just kidding.

They really don't have to do much different. Just ease off on the awkward, forced humor and focus on the character-driven, situational humor. And more inter-species sex. :bolian:

What about things we don't want to see?

I don't want to see an obligatory bit of soap drama where Claire Finn has to deal with the father - or other parentage - of Ty or Marcus. Her family is her family, apparently not unusual, and a done deal.

I don't want to see back story of that kind in general - some troublesome or embarrassing family member or old flame showing up to trigger some kind of personal crisis for one of the characters. Cameos like Ed's "mom and dad" are fine, and Darulio has been an onscreen part of Ed and Kelly's story literally from the first scene of the series.

Okay - exception here would be William Shatner as Ed's drunk uncle. :D

I'd like them to go a bit farther from specific premises of existing Trek episodes. More original stories in the TNG style, less "Ok start with exact same episode then add humor and add some more modern commentary".

More development of alien characters as individuals and not just representatives of the things about their race that is different from humans. Got a good start on that with Elara, but haven't really done it for any of the other alien characters.

I'd like them to either get to the point with the Ed/Kelly thing or move away from it. I hate it in shows when they tease a relationship for years. Either get them together or have them meet other people and get over each other as romantic partners.

I'd like them to find big bads besides the Krills because Krill are just 'Generic makeup baddies'.

You know, they should do an alternate universe story because it's one of those high-concept sf tropes that's right in their wheelhouse.

The "Evil Mirror Universe" is way too overplayed though and not nearly as much fun as it was when Trek really nailed it fifty years ago. SG-1 did several really interesting stories about parallel and alternate universes and histories, though, that rang changes on how things might be different without slapping a goatee and a sneer on Sam or Teal'c.

They should go someplace where Kelly is the Orvllle's captain and her ex is like the world's most hapless renegade or smuggler. Have Kelly be the one who crosses over.
