What would you BUY if someone handed you a ton of money?

Meh.. 90 million dollar isn't enough.. the 288 costs 100 million at least... :borg:

What's the 288?

I have like a million things on this list but if we're talking about single item splurges, I'll make a brief list:

1. a 16-core opteron system with 20 SSD drives in RAID 10

2. a Barrett M107 and 10,000 rds of .50 BMG API

3. that $300 million yacht that the prince of Zimbabwe or UAE or something ordered

I would buy happiness. Over time, it would occur to me that I had failed. I would become a recluse in one of my mansions and let my hair and fingernails grow.

I've already started collecting my urine in a collection of bottles tuned to play "April Showers".

^ So I guess Urine good company then.

I'm not just taking the piss, BTW. Urea-lly not that bad.

I think you're straining the last drop out of that one.

You two should stop before you piss someone off!

Depends on what is meant by "a ton". I would like to, among other things:

- Pay Cryptic to hire more staff to introduce optional content and gameplay modifications to STO.

- Buy a house here in Southern CA, and a house with a decent amount of land in the Pacific Northwest. Devote a lot of money to making both houses as sustainable (on-site power and food production) as possible.

- If I truly had access to the mad $$ my urban planning fantasy mind would like to have, I'd buy up either underdeveloped land in an existing city or somewhere not too environmentally critical and build my own city, containing various demonstration projects of urban planning concepts that I've read about. This is, of course, if I had the combined financial resources of Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and the Saudi royal family to draw on.

Plus, I'd finally go on a spree to acquire all the books, music, movies and TV shows I drool over on Amazon. Oh, and I'd definitely pay to restart Firefly.

CaptJack you opened a whole new door with that one - you're right - I'd buy the Star Trek rights from Universal or w/e the heck the parent company is and make sure nuTrek was buried forever, Enterprise was revived, an extension to DS9 was produced, and Brannon Braga was legally BARRED from ever writing another Star Trek script again  (let the attacks begin )

John,

I think you better also be prepared to buy a television network and a production studio along with the rights to Star Trek. Otherwise, no other studio will be willing to produce those thing you want to produce and no television network will be willing to pay for the syndication of the show. Also, you will have to buy a marketing firm to market the hell out of your show.

Finally, be prepared to lose money for years and years if you are only going to make those shows you proposed. There is simply not enough market for them anymore. I will be watching, for sure, but I will be part of a small minority.

I wouldn't buy anything. I would just put it all in the bank and make some wise business investments.

I didn't know there was such a thing.

Please advise.

You would have to talk to someone at an investment firm. Preferably someone who legally handles such portfolios and other things related to stocks and bonds.

Yes, but those people are all crooks.

I repeat: "Wise Buisness Investments"?? I didn't know there is such a thing.

After a car, I'd buy some land and have a house built to my specifications. Which would include secret passages and an extensive basement done up to look like the main areas of the Enterprise D, plus a few areas to look like the interior of a federation ship of my design.

Also, I'd find it cool to build a hotel/resort in Las Vegas that is composed of 5 separate towers adjoined at the base, and each tower would have a theme, like, a sci fi tower which would have Star Trek/Star Wars/generic sci fi/and other such themed rooms, a fantasy tower with like medieval/mythical themed rooms and stuff, and so on so each tower had its own theme. And, the hallways outside the rooms would match the themes inside the rooms in that area. And, there'd be common areas and things to fit the themes in each tower, kinda like the Promenade and Quark's was in the Star Trek Experience.

Of course, this is assuming they randomly gave me a shit ton of money. :p These would not be cheap.

Okay, point taken.

I would just put it all in the bank and let it draw interest.

Yeah, that would be another way to go, but I'd just rather keep it all in my sock.

(Yes, I'm being a smartass with this one, but not about the stock market. Had trouble there once.)

I would get a big building and refit it to repair and sell computers at really good prices, and I'd drive the bloodsuckers out of town.

As one of "those people" who also manages a branch office of an investment firm, I guess I'd better tell my wife and kids I'm off to jail.

And I fell down the stairs once as a kid. Still use them daily.

I'd buy a big house designed for entertaining- guest bedrooms, LARGE eat in kitchen, party room.

And I'd take my dream trip- an entire summer in the U.K. and Ireland. With side trips to Paris and Rome!
