When you want to emphasize that it's a good movie, you cite its performance compared to TDK. When we point out that TDK is four weeks older, you protest that TCW isn't a "real" movie.
I'll never understand the constant hatred for Lucas on these boards. It's like he killed everyone's soul just by existing.![]()

That's exactly what he did, in a way. Perhaps not kill, but maim. Rape. Certainly.
George Lucas was a hero at one time, and we all loved him. He made the ultimate trilogy. He made sci-fi popular among the masses. He paved the way for Star Trek's return, for other sci-fi stuff like Battlestar Galactica (original and, due to that original, the new BSG). He did the impossible, and made a movie that on the surface and at summary seemed little more than a kids cartoon, and instead became an Oscar-nominated world-changing sensation that threw everyone for ten loops over the moon. Then he followed up on that with a (by many accounts) superior sequel in "Empire" and, even though he sort of dropped the ball in some opinions on "Jedi" he still delievered all and all. He was a god.
Then... he lost his way.
He made mistakes. The Christmas Special. The other animated junk. A few errors with the Special Edition; changes that caused some issues. Still, those errors could have easily been forgotten and forgiven. Certainly, the animosity would have been far less with only those errors to point to.
But he kept going. And he took what could have been lightening in a bottle come twice and instead made a seriously inferior wretch of a prequel trilogy that offered nothing of the original Star Wars but in at-a-glance appearance. Poor story, poor acting, poor direction, poor script, poor everything. Nothing was as good, and the things that may have been superior like SFX, did not make up for the true heart of things being ripped out and crushed - the story and characters. Oh it made money, of course, but it didn't become beloved like the films of yesteryear. It failed to meet expectations in every way, shape and form. And quite frankly, raped the memory of the original films. Many people could no longer forgive Lucas, could no longer consider him as great as he had once been. And in the years since, he had only continued to deliver inferior products and stories while ignoring the calls and demands from those who loved Star Wars since childhood.
That's my analysis, and I'm not even a big Wars fan. I didn't even enjoy the films until I was older, until I watched them again for the first time a few years back. I can only imagine how much pain people must feel if they loved them all their lives.
It's like the animosity towards Berman and Braga in Trek, only... Berman and Braga didn't create Trek, they simply corrupted it. We can hate them, without the same passion. With Lucas... he betrayed us, and betrayed his own vision, his own dream. The creator became the destroyer. God became the Devil. And it was simply too much for many people to choke down. I can't blame them.

Regardless of the rest of your answer, I wonder how you would respond to someone who judged The Dark Knight without seeing it? Say...by saying they don't like comic book movies? Honestly...
To be fair, George takes no pride in that one. It's because of him that the thing hasn't seen the light of day in 30 years, so he hasn't lost all grip on reality. He made mistakes. The Christmas Special.
I'll say it again--TDK was in its fifth weekend, TCW was in its first. If you want a fair comparison, compare TDK's first weekend to TCW's. Not much of a contest, is it?It barely beat out The Clone Wars.
Well, god forbid I actually take a minute to reply and answer someone else's question, right? How DARE I actually respond with an explanation when asked something. It's horrible of me! I'm just terrible for doing that! I should limit myself to just posting smart-ass smiley faces!
My gods, all 3 of you go and take some Midol will you? Seriously.

Isn't that what trolls normally do? Twist the facts to suit their opinions?![]()

Though you used overblown hyperbole I agree with you.
He made a fantastic trilogy of movies and then he kept going with a series of side-projects and revisions and then an trilogy that lacked the soul and heart the originals had.
And all of that in-of-itself would be "fine", I guess if he didn't have such ego about it. Not releasing the original versions of the OT, thinking himself a forward-thinker in movie making and so much more. I think Lucas hate is more over the man's ego than the movies themselves. As Lucas is so sure the movies are great and we're all wrong in not liking them.
That right there is a much more reasonable response. Don't necessarily agree, but that I can swallow
Maybe we'll get another film if this one sells well on DVD.Box office Mojo is just updating. TDK is now #2 all time domestic (raw $).
$4,950,000 (Est. Friday)
$6,760,000 (Est. Saturday)
$5,080,000 (Est. Sunday)
$471,493,000 (Est. Total)
It should stay well above $1 million per day this week given a Monday of over $2 million. The question I'm wondering is will it break under a million dollars daily this week?
