In the immortal words of Dr. Evil: "100 billion dollars!"

Kidding, of course. I doubt it'll go farther than $500 million, although I would love to see it pass the $600 million dollar mark.

Tuesday's return is just under $10 million which isn't much of a drop from Monday and I would argue pretty good for as second Tuesday.

'The Dark Knight' will cross the $350 million domestic market today, Friday August 1.

As of Wednesday, July 30, it had $342,684,300. Thursday's take likely was in the $7 million range. Making today the $350 mark.

If all goes well, the weekend will see it make $50 million and cross the $400 million mark.

It's also held up quite well in the day-to-day box office.

I agree that it has held up very well in the day-to-day box office, but I'm not certain that it'll make all the way up to $50 million this weekend to break $400 million. I'm hoping for about $46 million to break the third weekend record and then breaking to $400 million in the following day or so. Either way, it'll still smash the fastest to $400 million record set by Shrek 2 (which is currently 43 days).

It probably doesn't mean much, but the IMAX showings in Seattle are sold out every day this weekend. A few shows intermittently throughout the week are also sold out (and more will be soon, I imagine). It's scheduled to be playing through September, four times a day, at least. I guess the IMAX thing is popular.

Why are we celebrating corporate profit?

Because it's a reward to the people who helped bring us a wonderful film from a long lasting franchise, which not only adds a bit of legitimacy to the entire genre of comic-to-film adaptations but to superheroes in general.

Oh, but then again, we can't cheer on THE MAN. Down with THE MAN and his dirty filthy profit!

The film will make $100. Yes, you read my prediction right. One-Hundred.

Because it's making so much, that eventually it'll loop around.

Why are we celebrating corporate profit?

Why do millions of people each week cheer when their team wins a football game? I came to the conclusion years ago that this need to root for something is a deep seated part of the human psyche. Personally, I could not give TWO FUCKING SHITS which team is doing well in ANY sport but there is part of my nature that clicks BOM about every second day(and ESPECIALLY Monday morning)to see how well my favourite film is doing. Or more interestingly, how BADLY my most hated film is doing.

It's just part of human nature to cheer on/boo something else's performance.

I think that $500 million mark is possible. Which would make it the second highest grossing (domestic) of all time. It's done $350 in 14 days, after all.

Well, I expected $7.8 million on Thursday and instead it made $8.4 million. That bodes well for this weekened. :D

Weekend estimates say $43 million for this weekend. Bringing it's domestic total up to $394 million. Means Monday, perhaps Tuesday, it will cross the $400 million mark. And Tuesday or Wednesday, it will gross $404 million and become the #1 superhero movie of all time, and #1 comic book adaptation of all time.

It then only needs to make it to $442 million to become the second-highest grossing domestic film of all time, as Shrek 2 made $441 million.

I think this next week and weekend will give us a very clear indication of it's final likely outcome at the box office, as far as total income. I've been wanting to say $475 million total as a conservative estimate, but this next week and weekend will be a big tell. So I'll hold off.

What a phenomenal performance, i didn't expect this, but the movie deserves it.

What's great is that it's really word of mouth that's carrying it, the movie is just ridiculously good, and everybody I mention this movie to has either seen it or is planning on seeing because of how many people told it was awesome and that Ledger was phenomenal. It's fast becoming iconic, and it's about time we had a good Batman movie ripping up the charts.
