What were the worst/best episodes of the new series?

Since we have tons of threads asking deep questions about a show that has barely left the green light stage, let's consider these other questions too:

1. What were the best episodes of the show?

2. What were the worst? Do you think this is why it was cancelled?

3. Who were the best and worst characters? Do you think the latter is why it was cancelled?

4. Do you think the surprise cameos of Capts. Sulu, Worf, and Riker made any sense? Were these high points or low points? Is this perhaps why the show was cancelled?

4. Who wants to start a letter writing campaign to CBS asking them to bring the series back?

5. Do you think the next next series will be a reboot of this new series, or will it be set in the nu-prime-verse?

6. Add your own question below.

1.The one where the captain falls in love, but it ends in tragedy.

2. The clip show.

3. The one that did nothing, but got an episode each season because of contracts.

4 No. But the Reed episode rocked.

4. Already done.

5. I'm hoping that actor who goes to cons and talks about being the lead in a new series get a shot.

6. Do they use money?

1. What were the best episodes of the show?

The one that was a riff off of recent action movies such as "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation."

2. What were the worst? Do you think this is why it was cancelled?

The attempted crossover with Doctor Who, which alienated fans of both series.

3. Who were the best and worst characters? Do you think the latter is why it was cancelled?

The best character was the inscrutable Horta engineering Lieutenant, whose point of view gave unique insights into humanity. The worst character was the pontificating Captain, who sneered at the various aliens-of-the-week because humanity is so much more advanced than them.

4. Do you think the surprise cameos of Capts. Sulu, Worf, and Riker made any sense? Were these high points or low points? Is this perhaps why the show was cancelled?

It's hard to say. The show was getting rather monotonous and boring, but became more compelling once Worf was brought on as a regular cast member.

4. Who wants to start a letter writing campaign to CBS asking them to bring the series back?

Samuel T. Cogley.

5. Do you think the next next series will be a reboot of this new series, or will it be set in the nu-prime-verse?

The second option.

6. Add your own question below.

What about the episode that was a direct sequel to an episode of a previous series? Was it too fanboyish?

2. What were the worst? Do you think this is why it was cancelled?

The episode where all the inhabitants of a planet were cast with white actors and actresses, nation wide protests resulted and the president of CBS Television was forced to resign.

The network announced that the (then) current season would be the last.

Subsequently CBS quietly sold Star Trek to Telemundo.

Having all the aliens speaking English was pretty stupid in this day and age.

Also, I hated the way the aliens all spoke incomprehensible gibberish - universal translator, anyone?

The episode where they travelled to TNG episode The Pegasus to stop Riker using the holodeck was probably my favourite episode, if only because I love it when main characters die tragically, showing that space really is dangerous.

However, I hated the way they killed off a popular character for cheap drama. Worst episode ever.

I liked the way they often referenced previous Star Trek canon, but surely they could have made the show without all the annoying continuity porn?

In a way I'd say this was my favourite Star Trek series. I just wish they'd never made it. :(

1. What were the best episodes of the show?
"Echoes That Bleed" when the new Enterprise revisited Charon. I am still baffled how a sequel to such an over-the-top mediocre story from TOS could turn into such a heart-rending drama.
"Section 32" still impresses me every time I re-watch it. Okay, it is a bit of a ripoff of The Usual Suspects but I don't care.

2. What were the worst? Do you think this is why it was cancelled?
Well, we all agree the musical episode sucked hard, but that was in the second season so how can that in and of itself be a reason for cancellation? But "Gulliver 2.0" probably had something to do with it. Those special effects were massively expensive, and while the episode wasn't that bad it certainly wasn't a good return on the investment.

3. Who were the best and worst characters? Do you think the latter is why it was cancelled?
I'm sorry, I know she was a fan favorite but the robot cat alien Reboot never stopped being a mysogynist stereotype--I don't care how good Michelle Trachtenberg looked in that outfit! Okay she looked gorgeous, but that character was still the nadir of Star Trek. Introduced into the fifth season to boost ratings, she also clearly failed in her objective.

On the other hand I really like Commander Skoll. A Vulcan first officer should have been such a cliche but he so was not. He broke all the stereotypes of Vulcans in general yet remained true to the culture as established in the franchise--and Elijah Wood did a magnificent job of playing someone far older than he seemed, someone to whom logic and calm were so much a part of his being he simply saw no reason to go on about it, admitting frankly to his own emotions, even had that magnificently dry and cutting sense of humor! Can totally see why fans shipped him with...well, everybody.

4. Do you think the surprise cameos of Capts. Sulu, Worf, and Riker made any sense? Were these high points or low points? Is this perhaps why the show was cancelled?
I quite liked "Dutchmen" actually. Not one of their best, but probably the single best ep of the last season. Didn't work to save the show of course. By then it was pretty much doomed.

4. Who wants to start a letter writing campaign to CBS asking them to bring the series back?
Ultimately, no thanks.

5. Do you think the next next series will be a reboot of this new series, or will it be set in the nu-prime-verse?
Given the spectacular ratings of the first two seasons, I suspect some kind of reboot might happen. Maybe. Happened with Heroes and The X-Files...

1. What were the best episodes of the show?

That one episode where the entire Federation was on the brink of destruction from the new enemy and the Captain had to make a difficult decision to violate orders in order to stop them.

Also the Q episodes were awesome. Zachary Quinto has great chemistry with Wil Wheaton.

2. What were the worst? Do you think this is why it was cancelled?

The second, third and fourth episodes, before the show found its footing. The show was cancelled because of declining ratings, no other reason.

3. Who were the best and worst characters? Do you think the latter is why it was cancelled?

The best character was the guy introduced in the later seasons who shook up the cast and didn't always follow the rules. The worst character was the fairly normal guy who was killed off in the second season finale. They never really gave him a chance to develop, you know? They should have really brought him back.

4. Do you think the surprise cameos of Capts. Sulu, Worf, and Riker made any sense? Were these high points or low points? Is this perhaps why the show was cancelled?

Oh, high points. I know the series did kind of severely overuse time travel but in this case the way they used it was just brilliant.

4. Who wants to start a letter writing campaign to CBS asking them to bring the series back?

I heard they might bring it back on Hulu.

5. Do you think the next next series will be a reboot of this new series, or will it be set in the nu-prime-verse?

Whatever is more in fashion in 2041.

6. What'd you guys think of that grand finale where they wrapped up and reunified the prime universe, the Abrams-verse, and the Kurtzman-verse? I thought it was a bit of a stretch and unnecessary fan service.

6. Add your own question below.

1. The best episode was the one were the Borg tried to invade Earth, while the Captain was trapped in a timebubble with his flute.

2. The introduction of the de-con chamber was really annoying. Mostly because it didn't serve any purpose other than showing our main character being naked and rubbing his dog.

3. The best character was the weird female outsider in the cat-suit. In the beginning it was kind of hard to watch how the show sexualised her. But later when she became more of a character she really grew on me.
The worst one was the naive ensign on the bridge, who didn't get a promotion or any character development over the whole series.

4. Well, the first time it was exciting. But when they made an entire episode about Cpt. Worf's Gagh-eating contest, it really strained credibility.

4. Who needs a letter campain? Our fundraiser already hit the 1-million-dollar mark.

5. Remember when they traveled back in time and changed history? The next series is goint to be a prequel to the sequel of the alternate timeline reboot.

6. Was it really necessary to upscale the Enterprise this much?

1. What were the best episodes of the show?

The three episode arc at the end of season four in which the crew saved the Federation president from the assassination attempt and exposed the Orion plot to destabilize the Federation and gain control of the dilithium supply of the Alpha Quadrant, thus tying together several ongoing plotlines from seasons three and four was this series’ finest hour, and one of the best moments of any Trek series. Unfortunately, it was followed by the steady decline in quality over the next two seasons which led to the series’ abrupt cancellation.

2. What were the worst? Do you think this is why it was cancelled?

The episode where the long-defeated Borg resurrected themselves via the Guardian of Forever to threaten the prime universe, the Abramsverse, and the mirror universe was utterly nonsensical. And the resolution in which Q appears and reveals the whole sequence of events to be an unintended consequence of Picard’s alternate life seen in “Tapestry” brought the episode to a level of absurdity never before approached in Trek. After that episode aired, I wrote a letter to CBS begging them to cancel the show. Fortunately, the final three episodes of the series were marginally better.

4. Do you think the surprise cameos of Capts. Sulu, Worf, and Riker made any sense? Were these high points or low points? Is this perhaps why the show was cancelled?

I thought the appearance of Captain Sulu at the end of the episode “Demora” was a sweet way to end one of the third season’s best episodes, and showcased Takei’s acting very well. Riker’s appearance in a mediocre fifth season episode was pointless, and seemed to have been done solely so Jonathan Frakes could keep his bragging rights to being the only actor to appear in every one of the spin-off series. The two part Worf episode that opened season six can hardly be called a “cameo” and marks one of the worst examples of the series’ over-the-top self-indulgence. Whoever gave the okay for Michael Dorn to both write and direct the episodes, in addition to appearing as the elderly Worf, the middle-aged Alexander, and Alexander’s Abramsverse counterpart, should have been fired!

5. Do you think the next next series will be a reboot of this new series, or will it be set in the nu-prime-verse?

I don’t care, as long as the producers agree from the beginning that none of Porthos’ great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandpuppies will ever appear on the show!

6. Add your own question below.

Would you like to see Captain Neelix and his motley crew of Ferengi, Tellarite, and Nausican mercenaries or their Abramsverse counterparts appear in the next series?

1. The spider-Borg episode.
2. The one where they timetravel back to Season 1 of TNG and recut the crew interacting with the Enterprise-D personnel.
3. Ensign Redshirt was a surprisingly well-rounded gay, female, transgender handicapped crewmember and I really felt emotional at her death scene when she was all alone on that planet and blew up the badguys to save that village from cultural contamination. I liked how they showed Lt. Hunk Awesome bedding men and women equally but he was so fucking wooden I was afraid someone would get splinters. That sarcastic Horta rocked.
4. Zombie-Sulu was a bit much but Admiral Worf was fantastic. Frakes appearing in yet another return to 'Parallels' was so damn strange.
4. I'm busy trying to bring back the original series, but it sounds like an intriguing experiment. I'll be interested to see the results.
5. I'm hoping for a prequel to Enterprise.
7. I'm hungry?

1. What were the best episodes of the show?
I like the last episode where the Yorktown blew up with all the crew on board. A daring finale, resulting in the deaths of the protagonists and leading up to the potential destruction of the Federation sometime afterwards.

2. What were the worst? Do you think this is why it was cancelled?
The worst episode was the one where we found out that the captain had been in stuck on a holodeck for two and a half years, and the events of the past 47 episodes never really happened. What a way to undo unpopular character developments and crew deaths!

But no, it would have been cancelled earlier if it hadn't been for that, so I suppose we should be grateful for it.

3. Who were the best and worst characters? Do you think the latter is why it was cancelled?
Well, I rather liked Briony Dax, but I think it was rather silly of the writers to make the new Dax host 1/4 human, and the great grand-daughter of Ben Sisko and Kassidy Yates. Once we found out the prophets were speaking to her it got even more annoying.

Lt Cmdr. Alexander Rozhenko was a rather weak first officer, and it's no suprise he was never promoted.

4. Do you think the surprise cameos of Capts. Sulu, Worf, and Riker made any sense? Were these high points or low points? Is this perhaps why the show was cancelled?
Worf's cameo coming aboard the Yorktown to try to patch things up with Alexander was rather heartfelt, and the fact he was now in a 3 way relationship with Riker and Sulu was a refreshing twist on things. I think Riker's later episode was the first time since TNG series one that he ever seemed useful.

5. Do you think the next next series will be a reboot of this new series, or will it be set in the nu-prime-verse?
I think the next series should take place on Earth in the mid 18th century when the Borg have travelled back to assimilate humanity just before the industrial revolution. The series should be set in Scotland and feature an ancestor of Montgomery Scott.

6. Add your own question below.
Did anyone else notice the three seashells in all the crew quarters... was this a reference to Demolition Man, and if so, why?

1. What were the best episodes of the show?

The Pilot of course. Lots of money, special effects. Really went all out. Too bad they had to turn the entire crew into holograms.

2. What were the worst? Do you think this is why it was cancelled?

That episode where the Hologram Android was fighting for his basic rights. I mean...really?
No, that wasn't why it was cancelled. People love holograms and Androids. Was still a bad episode but there is no reasoning with people.

3. Who were the best and worst characters? Do you think the latter is why it was cancelled?

Well the Captain exceeded his programming and adapted but the holographic Borg would not budge. Kept deleting every new subroutine. It got old.

I think it was cancelled because the crew kept deactivating each other whenever there was a disagreement. First officer has a problem with the mission...zap him. After a while even the ship got tired of their shenanigans. Phaser fights were pretty cool though.

4. Do you think the surprise cameos of Capts. Sulu, Worf, and Riker made any sense? Were these high points or low points? Is this perhaps why the show was cancelled?

They were a bit of an unholy three weren't they? LOL at whoever decided to give them redshirts. No, the cancellation wasn't their fault. I don't think the new fans even knew who they were.

4. Who wants to start a letter writing campaign to CBS asking them to bring the series back?

Not me. I'm more of a fiery speech in the public square kind of person, as long as someone else is doing it.

5. Do you think the next next series will be a reboot of this new series, or will it be set in the nu-prime-verse?

I think it will be a continuation. With the same cast. They'll just be 100 years older. This time it will be in the non prime universe.

6. Add your own question below.

The hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Additional:

I've decided this universe shall be called universe 3. I might not be THE prime universe, but it is at least A prime universe. :D

1. What were the best episodes of the show?
My favourite was the cliffhanger between seasons 4 and 5. When the entire turned-into-holodeck-characters ran out of energy and they had to return to the vacation-planet from TOS to recreate Duracell-Bunnies to steal their batteries so they could exist on.

2. What were the worst? Do you think this is why it was cancelled?
The one, with the Bubblegum. You would think, a holo-bubblegum, chewed by a holo-character would disappear after it was spit out in the real world. But, then there would not have been an episode with an angry Breen.

3. Who were the best and worst characters? Do you think the latter is why it was cancelled?
Best Character: Inspite my disliking of the introduction, the angry Breen who is also the ships doctor is my favourite. Although I found it a litte extreme to have Kirk AND Spock in his family tree. That was a little fan-boyish. But when he said “GFRkpffrrrrtz” and cut Worf in half with his own Bat’leth, I was laughing so hard, my stomach was sour for two days on straight...
Worst Character: Superspot. Datas cat, after exposed to red matter radiation turning into a half-human/half-cat superstrong security officer. That shifted its gender AGAIN. Sorry. Don’t buy it. This is not the incredible Hulk, unbelievable characters like that should not be in Star Trek. It is good that he got killed in Season 1.

4. Do you think the surprise cameos of Capts. Sulu, Worf, and Riker made any sense? Were these high points or low points? Is this perhaps why the show was cancelled?
Well, I was angry at first, when they announced they would bring Worf back. But he got killed before the first commercial break. That was great.
It was also good to see Sulu in the time travel episode, completely undoing the entire Voyager Series. Shame on you Tuvok!
Riker. Ok, I admit, there were a lot of women in his past, he might have gotten tired of them - but with him I just do not believe that he turned gay. Not after he married Troy. They did not even mention her in that episode! The Captain that looks like Daniel Craig gay? Oh yeah! Riker? Just feels out of character. But I don’t think, this is the reason the show was cancelled. CBS pulled the plug a year earlier when the shut down “All Access”.

5. Who wants to start a letter writing campaign to CBS asking them to bring the series back?
I’ll start a letter campaign to NOT bring THIS series back. I want real Star Trek. Not Holo Star Trek on the internet.

6. Do you think the next next series will be a reboot of this new series, or will it be set in the nu-prime-verse?
I think it will be set in the Q-continuum.

7. Add your own question below.
Why are there no windows on that ship? It feels like sitting in a bunker, watching the show...
