The only way I can see getting back to the original timeline (such as a Pike series) would be an animated project.

All it would take to return to the original universe timeline is to begin your series/movie in that universe, don't make the tiniest referance to the Abrams movie. The fans will figure it out in a heartbeat, non-fans won't know the differance.

True. But I was assuming that Abrams-Trek projects were still around in production.

Of Course there could be a Special Ops Star Trek based upon Section 31, . . . .

These both are fantastic ideas... The Star Fleet Acadamy one, written properly could be a great way to introduce a younger crowd to the franchise. The Section 31 one could be a gritty, sci-fi/espionage type series that could be fantastic.

However, I doubt they'll be going that way.. it seem if there actually were to be a new series, it'd follow the Abramsverse...

Looking back on it, the JMS proposal had some merit esp the crew searching for the race or thing that gave humanity the spark of intelligance to begin with and created civilization or such. Very 2001ish. Some sci fi in my soup please. And JMS is a sci fi heavy weight. So is Bryce Zabel. I like ideas that can't be digested so easily and make you think of how the way things really are and with a crew that is much smarter than us with future type references and philosophies that are not redily understandible. His ideas should have at least been consulted with and even considered.

Answering the original question, the only two that spring to mind are Robert Wolfe's pitch for a show set after the Federation has fallen, and which basically became Andromeda (obviously this pre-dates Enterprise), and Bryce Zabel and JMS' reboot idea from 2004: http://bztv.typepad.com/newsviews/files/ST2004Reboot.pdf

Bryce's pitch still amazes me. I love it.
I wish this is what we got instead of the film.

I really appreciate JJ's work, but I didn't need old Spock, time travel, blowing Vulcan up, or a fancy round-up scenario involving the Academy. He didn't need to do that. He could have just BSG-ed it.

I think they went a little too far turning Scotty into a woman and using old ideas in a alternate universe and not a different universe.

The only two pitches that I recall are the aforementioned JMS/Bruce Zybel proposed Star Trek reboot and the animated series idea called "Star Trek: Final Frontier" and of which you can get their pilot script and concept art from here:

I didn't know Robert Hewitt Wolfe pitched and Andromeda like Star Trek show. As for the Star Trek reboot pitch from JMS and Zybel I think the got the right idea that the show needs to focus on the core characters and start telling stories about contemporary issues and subjects like the original series did.
