What Was Going on in the Next Room in The Deadly Years?

I was watching the remastered The Deadly Years yesterday, and noticed something I had never seen in hundreds of previous viewings. During Lt. Galway's death scene in sickbay, as she and Kirk and McCoy were in the doorway between rooms in sickbay there was a reflection on the far wall in the next room. It looked like a couple of guys (stagehands?) waiting around for the shot to end.

Anyone else notice this?

On the set blueprints, I've always wondered what those narrow football-shaped shapes represent? Looks like a deflector dish at the end of the engineering set.

From context, I believe they indicate "wild" wall segments that can be removed to allow camera access. The heavy black line represents the wall piece, and the arcs surrounding it delineate it as a distinct, removable segment. Note that the very wall grille we're talking about is marked with those "parentheses" around it (just above "DR'S. OFFICE" in the blueprint I linked to above); it was probably removable for camera setups pointing into McCoy's office from that side.

Yes, the faint ellipse surrounding some wall segments indicate that those segments can be wilded out of the way.

Wild.

Is that window wavy glass or are those blinds as someone suggests?

Little tiny rings like on the divider in Kirk's quarters. Here's Spock sitting in front of this window to the lab:

(You guys do watch these episodes, don't you?) ;)

...Yeah, the only thing where we should rely solely on you ought to be finding out exactly what kind of 1960s packing material was turned into that particular window. ;)

Yeah, and all the great uses for cool shower curtain patterns. :techman:
