What was canonized in the Prime U from XI?

Captain59

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
From what I can tell, these facts have been made part of canon in the Prime Universe from the movie since they were established before Nero appeared:

- George Kirk was seving aboard the USS Kevin

- Wiona Kirk was aboard the Kelvin with George

I guess we technically cannot say Jim Kirk was born on the Kelvin. Was Wiona already in labor when Nero appeared? If so, you can make the strong case that Jim was born on the ship, unless she stopped labor.

Are there any other facts of interest that was canonized because of the movie?

George and Winona's names. Kirk being from Riverside (specifically) in Iowa. Kirk's dad being in Starfleet. Uhura's first name being Nyota. McCoy being divorced.

Uhura's first name being Nyota. McCoy being divorced.

How do we "know" either of these? The events changed by Nero could've changed how Uhura's parents named her and McCoy's marriage. ;)

The only thing "canonized" are events that occured before the movie starts) as the blackhole triggers the change in the timeline) and things "presumed" to have occured before the events in the movie.

Canonized? Nokia and Budweiser.

Exsisting in the 23rd century. And Nokia hasn't changed their theme tune/ringtone in 300 years.

Uhura's name is from the novels. so is McCoy's divorce. since everyone else's names are the same, i say Uhura's is too. or would you prefer she be 'Penda'?

i also doubt that McCoy didn't get divorced in both realities.

The destruction of Romulus in 2387. I hope the novels will expand on this and the ensuing consequences.

Nokia was in an "antique" car. Could have been left over from 21st century but still capable of communication.

Budweiser classic could be a beer made by anyone.

not likely. the current crop of novels are largely set in 2381 and it'll take them some time to get to '87.

Trekker: re-read the thread title. What. was. canonised. these facts were canonised.

In the prime U (the old Trekverse), though. Uhura was probably born after Nero changed the timeline, so her name wouldn't be canonised for the prime Universe.
And McCoy's divorce definetely happened after that.

Bingo. There are companies that are hundreds of years old and haven't changed their logos in ages. As for Budweiser, well beer's been around for thousands of years. It's not going anywhere, and there's no reason why a company like Budweiser, or someone who bought the old rights, couldn't continue making it. It's well within believability. Plus, I like the novelty of it.

also beastie boys was in the music system from that antique car, not in the bar. old mp3 maybe

kirk was 25 when he entered starfleet academy and 28 when he became captain....
making him the youngest captain.

Yep. I still listen to Mozart, Bach and Vivaldi. Granted the Beastie Boys aren't necessarily gifted composers, but we have the technology now to store digital information indefinitely. Someone who loves the "classics" (note: not Classical) will be able to access that data. This is one reason why we improve digital media, so that it will be available to future generations.

Wasn't uhura first name mentioned in a TOS episode? I seem to recall Nurse Chapel mentioning her first name when they tried to reeducate Uhura after a memory loss

Since Nero's ship entered the temporal anomaly shortly before Spock, but arrived in the past some 25 years before Spock, perhaps a large asteroid or other stellar body slipped into the anomaly shortly before Nero's ship, emerged even further in the past than 25 years before Nero, and collided with a heavily populated colony. The new timeline branches from the old one even before 2233. Problems solved.

Spock falling in love with uhura. Kirk making captain in three years instead of nine.

Soar Dude

The ENT/TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY continuity is the same up until Nero's appearance and the destruction of the Kelvin causing a split in the timelines.

Its destruction also prompted a redesign of the Constitution Class in the new timeline. Also, the Kelvin's logs including the records of Nero's transmission to the Kelvin was also recorded and retained by at least one of the escape shuttles.

Hence the new Enterprise's appearance and the knowledge of what Romulans look like by the time of Enterprise's launch.

Sometime after the Kelvin's destruction, the Federation sent a transmission to Romulus asking, "You wouldn't happen to look like THIS would you?"
