what TV shows should exist, but don't?

A tv version of the movie 'Wag the Dog." It would focus on this character who basically helps polticians, corporations, etc out of jams by, finding ways to spin a issue.

A show about the early days of Isreal and how the conflict with Palestine, that we are familiar with, basically got started.

A what if show, about what America would look like today if slavery, had never ended. It would in essence be the ultimate "Slider's" ep.

Bush isn't doing anything, he can even star as himself in it!

An R-Rated level ALIENS tv series involving the colonial marines but set in a broader sense like the novels and comics. And it would have a B5 level story!

Wouldn't that be sort of a Federal version of 'Spin City' crossed with 'West Wing'?

I think this has been done (looks it up). Yep, 'Exodus'.

Use the famous SF novel 'Bring The Jubilee' by Ward Moore. One of the very first alt.history novels.

Daredevil TV series
Black Panther TV series
decent budgeted Spider-Man series
The Trigon War - my massive space war story.

I'd like to see a real hard-SF series for grown ups that isn't about war or blowing things up. Maybe something set in the Foundation Universe or on the Ringworld, or something about Haviland Tuf.

Another thing I'd like to see is a new Trek show called Star Trek: Discovery that would air on Discovery Network; it would combine dramatic stories with the speculative and educational elements of shows like Alien Planet or The Future Is Wild.

As for Historical Fiction, I'd like to see something set during the Revolution. Something along the lines of History Channel's The Revolution series, but fully dramatized and without the documentary aspects.

It would also be great to see a straightforward Superhero series on TV; a show that doesn't compromise for mainstream appeal at all. Something that looks like it was drawn by Jack Kirby or George Perez and set in a world of colorful heroes and villains and super-science and aliens and so on-- even something that just looks like the old Batman show. But it wouldn't be played for camp. It would straightforward adult superheroics as if written by somebody like Roy Thomas or Marv Wolfman or Steve Englehart or Kurt Busiek.

My show! :p I've been working on it since 1993. It's the greatest sci-fi space opera ever! Hopefully you'll see it in ten years or so ;)

Normally I'd avoid reality TV shows, but I would watch one where Summer Glau tracks down the studio executives who cancelled Firefly and The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and beats the living snot out of them.

To ensure that this program is properly funded, a premium rate phone call lets the viewer vote on what Summer will be wearing in the next episode:techman:.

I can also see a spin off video game, action figures etc.

I'd like to see a movie or TV series about Thomas Paine. They could bring back the actors from John Adams to play some of the major roles.

A thousand times this. Like Silver Age Marvel with better dialogue and less exposition.

:D

Have you ever read the 1963 series by Alan Moore? I'd love to see that made into a mini-series. It's retro-Marvel style certainly has the "super-science" stuff going on!

I love 1963. I just wish they had published the final issue. That would have been the perfect satire of all the Darker & Grittier nonsense-- from one of the guys who inadvertently started it. :rommie:

I'd rather see a wider focus, but that could certainly work.

A couple of miniseries based on Graham Masterson's earlier works. Maybe Ritual or Family Portrait.
Oooh, Ritual is a nasty one...I don't think they could do it justice on TV. And if they did do it justice, I don't think I'd watch it...:D

I think the reader spends so long with Ritual thinking, he can't be talking about what I think he's talking about, and then, so long thinking, please don't show me it, that if tv producers could capture that they wouldn't have to show anything. The fear of it and then the threat of it would be enough, I think.

Charnel House FTW!
Definately. Or Walkers. I think that'd work, too. With Masterton it's often all about the discvovery of the evil.

Shadowrun

A world set in the 2050s where criminals for hire (often highly skilled and implanted with various bodymodifications) perform illegal jobs for competing megacorporations (who have gained a status equal to a nation).

In 2011 magic reappeared in the world and transformed part of the population into fnatasy races like Dwarves, Elves, Orcs etc so you get high tech living besides traditional magic.

It is an awesome roleplaying game and could provide endless hours of fun.. however if done right it would be a very expensive show and this highly unlikely to be ever made (though i'm 100% sure it would be a hit if done right).
