What tropes in science fiction annoy you?

What are we defining as "superpowers"?

Telepathy, they can heal a wound by touching it or (like in one ENT episode) spitting on it, they can set things on fire or push a spaceship ten thousand light years ahead... etc... to say nothing of superheroes...

One thing I've noticed in particular as I've been watching Buffy.

Selectively merciful monsters, who murder everybody they see without hesitation or remorse, but somehow know to leave the main characters unconscious or take them hostage.

Like, how many times do vampires massacre the group, take their hostages, then when Buffy gets back Xander is just waking up from being conked on the head, arteries intact.

Ooh not a trope but this bugged me a bit. Near the end of Equilibrium when the revolt is in full swing some of the guards turn to dust when shot. Was that a mistake or intentional?

Also are all the guards in on the big lie because it seems the leadership are allowed to keep their feelings and emotions? Also who were those people on the swivel monitors? Was it just the one city?

Love isn't a destructive thing so was love banned too?

I have it on DVD so could be that lower resolution.

In the scene in the streets, some of the guards when shot look like they turn to dust or such

"The aliens are doing something different and here's why it is worse than what humans do"

Kinda want to see the opposite once or twice....where the 'good guys' learn a thing or two.

...for example, an episode where we visit a planet where they've made lying the worst crime imaginable and thus all other crime fell away. Humans approach, hilarity ensues, they come away finding out they have a few things to learn...

If your actor puts on clothes and a wig, it's a lot cheaper than spending 3 or 4 hours in heavy makeup.
Do they get paid more to be in make up? Do make up artists get paid more than wardrobe and hair? Does a silicon face piece cost more than a costume?
