I mentioned on another thread that I'd like it to be comedic, but with a heart. Having a heart does not necessarily mean it needs to be serious during those big-heart moments, but it can be. Pure comedy potentially can have heart.

I mentioned in that other thread (and I'll repeat myself for this thread) that one of my all-time favorite animated shows is Bob's Burgers. That show can be nutty and outrageous, and the Belcher family can be eccentric and prone to putting themselves in crazy (and funny) situations -- but they also are among the most loving families on TV. The bottom-line theme of almost every Bob's episode is that they are a supportive and tight-knit family.

I have no idea what Lower Decks will be like, but It would be great if it could capture some of that supportiveness among the crew -- even despite any craziness that might happen due to eccentric personalities.

I think @Jackson_Roykirk has it right, its priority as a comedy should be to make the audience laugh, but if at the same time there's a sense of heart, friendship and genuine camaraderie between the cast of characters, it would be much appreciated. Doesn't necessarily mean it has to become serious at some point, but it would be neat – and kind of breaking with the prevalent trend in a lot of “adult” animation shows – if the characters cared for each other in the end rather than just displaying a selfish “I don't care” attitude all of the time.

Optimistic.
Yeah, and this too, please. :)

Similar to Message in a Bottle or Bride of Chaotica: mostly funny, but with actual problems and sci-fi concepts.

I just hope LD shows respect.

Don't shit all over the essence of Trek and make fun of it. Just show some respect, that's all we ask.

Probably not going to happen...
New feature on Lower Decks/Mike McMahan from Animation Magazine: https://www.animationmagazine.net/s...ond-live-action-in-mike-mcmahans-lower-decks/

Plenty of interesting details and behind-the-scenes info, but this statement from McMahan really stood out to me:

That certainly sounds promising.

I want a laugh. Several of them, actually.

If the pilot achieves that, I'll... watch the next episode. After having seen the trailer though, I'm not overly confident this will be my cup of tea.

All one can do is give it a try. Like most Trek-related things, it will work for some and not others.

I'm undecided. I enjoyed the trailer. I've never watched Rick & Morty, so I have no idea what to expect. It'll either continue to grow on me... or I'll think it got old by the 10th episode. I don't think there'll be much room for in-between.

I’d love for the show to have a tone similar to Galaxy Quest with subtle send ups of Trek lore, tradition, and even the fans. It doesn’t have to be quite as biting as Rick and Marty, though that would be fine with me.

I’ll be watching the first episode tonight.
