What tone do you hope this show has?

I prefer Gravity Falls to Rick and Morty.

Less mean spirited and more, "Crazy affectionate" parody.

The tone they put in is an eclectic mix, and as Charles Phipps said about does have a "crazy affectionate" feel when all is said and done, but it as a complete package works wonders (IMHO). Comedic with serious moments, exploring a previously un-dealt paradigm (after first contacts), each character feels well-rounded and has their own foibles... I tried sitting through a certain youtube channel and the guy was so stuck on his insular position that he didn't notice other scenes that show otherwise. I wouldn't say he's totally wrong, but he's definitely not totally right or anywhere near it either. YMMV.

The humor with pointing out Trek's creatures feels more like a loving homage than hateful or disrespecting the fans and they're doing stuff that goes well beyond what prior Trek has done or could do. The premiere clearly had a moral or two, told well, and without any cynicism. Not sure where people are perceiving that idea, but I'm not an expert on that.
