I'm kind of iffy about Cumberbatch's casting, but I would call 'bullshit' on such a pointless and obvious back-pedal too. What's done is done.

I'm not fond of writers letting Internet fans write their scripts. It doesn't usually end well for their product.

I say bust him out of ice next time there's a new villain and use Khan's abilities against that enemy... and in the process he learns about friendship & morality and the movie ends on a freezeframe of Kirk and Khan shaking hands with some 80's music playing!
