What to do in Vegas?

OK. I'm going to Vegas in July. Now that they've closed down the Star Trek Experience, I'll be looking for some other stuff to do.

I already know about gambling.
Most shows are too expensive.
I don't like to swim.
So, what are some interesting, not-too-expensive things to do there?
No idea is too wacky. Let's brainstorm here.

What is your budget? I was just there (Kestra's last thread link is mine) and I spent plenty in the two days I was there and only $20 of that was on gambling. Me and my friend saw Mystere on the recommendation of a couple members here and we were both very glad we did. The tickets were about $90 a piece but it felt like money well spent afterward.

If money is tight, you can go to Fremont Street. I didn't get to see it myself, we never made it out of the strip with only one full day there. There are also free sights on the strip like the Bellagio fountains. If you're interested in desert scenery, Red Rock Canyon is 45 minutes away. The Hoover Dam is worth a tour if that's your thing. I was hoping to take the tour but we planned on doing that as we left and she was too hung over.

[edit] One more observation I would make which may be irrelvant to you... I was surprised how early the strip gets quiet. On both nights we were out until 5 AM but the strip is pretty much dead by one in the morning... perplexing for a New Orleanian. Even the fountains get turned off after midnight. In retrospect, I wish we could have patronized some of the nightclubs at various casinos... and if you're interested, I took some pics while there a few weeks ago.

Hubby and I were there recently. We walked from Wynn to Planet Hollywood, and back up to TI. We checked out Aria and Vdara but didn't get to many stores in City Center. If you just like looking around, try that. Enough malls to keep you window shopping for a week!

I was curious about a haunted tour in Vegas, which includes a seance. Although I'm very interested in the supernatural, I'm smart enough to be cynical about touristy attractions. Still, it could be fun, but it is like $66 or something. That's a lot for me, but not necessarily a deal breaker. Anybody have experience with this?

The Vegas travel sites list tons of free things to do in Vegas, so be sure to look at those.

One thing I like in the area is touring Ethel M's Chocolate Factory. I wouldn't do this every visit, but it's fun, and you get a free sample.

Ummm, get drunk and get married? Or.... get married then get drunk.

Or get drunk and gamble your money away. Or gamble your money away and get drunk.

Go to the Canyon.

I just got back from my first trip to Vegas. The answer to your question is "Do ANYTHING YOU WANT!" Yes, the place is THAT magical! :D

Seriously though, I was there for 3 days/nights and I didn't even hit the tip of the iceberg in terms of all there is to do.

Words of advice on food though:

1. Go to the Earl of Sandwich in Planet Hollywood -- BEST sandwich I've ever eaten in my life
2. If you go for buffet, pay the extra and get the 24 hour pass. You'll have access for 24 hours from the time of purchase, to 7 or 8 other buffets on the strip. If you time your purchase right, you can get 3 or 4 meals out of it and won't feel obligated to stuff yourself. I highly recommend Spice Market buffet in Planet Hollywood

Although O'Shea's isn't the nicest casino in town, their dealers are great and will help you out if you haven't done much gambling before.

Also, go to "Half Price Ticket" booths the day of the show for tickets. You will literally pay half the list price and there are PLENTY of available seats for most shows right now due to the economy. My wife and I saw Peepshow for something like $50 each.

Just don't do this..............
