What the hell happened to Kes?

As someone whose weight has gone up and down like a fiidler's elbow over the years, I can totally relate. She's only human. Leave her alone.

I don't think she looks enormous at all. If she was a stranger that you saw walking on the street, you wouldn't think she was at all unusual. It's just that you're comparing those photos to how she looked when she was 20 years old and working in an industry where young women are expected to be extremely thin.

You can almost tell which season of TNG you're watching by how Riker looked, and not that it matters. Time has a way of catching up to a person, I'm sure the Jennifer is aware, and is taking the right steps. I always like Kes, and I always will...

This is hysterical. Although they thought she was beautiful when she first started, I knew better. She had a piglet look. She's got a wonderful personality, though. I wanna know what happened to her character and why she went berserk.

Oh, that's a heartbreaker. Guess the career is toast except for voice work, huh.

She does not look enormous. That is a gross exageration. Yes, she has gained weight. So? Does it matter? Maybe she has had problems, maybe she just didn't care, maybe it's medical. People gain and lose weight througout their lives. No reason to devote a thread to it, especially not with such an opening post.

It's the inside that counts, not the outside...
If she's a warm, nice person with a good heart, it doesn't matter what she looks like.

Just for the sake of argument...are you sure that someone's inability to stop gorging themselves on food, to get up and exercise, or to care if they are attractive tells you NOTHING about what they are like on the inside?

To answer the question in the thread topic, without regard to anything actually in the thread: Kes and Wesley shacked up together and used their vast cosmic powers to raise the three transwarp salamander babies. They grew up to become Chuck Norris, Captain Robau, and Horatio Caine. :D

But that's not always why someone is fat, now is it?

Stress will make people store fat. Some people have a poor diet, rather than a gluttonous one - and they may not have as much input in that as they'd like, either due to money or to what food is available (:cough: High Fructose Corn Syrup :cough: ). Some people have a slow metabolism, or other health problems that 'cause them problems with weight - and not just pituitary issues. I, for example, have poor function in my lungs and a heart condition, so I can't exercise like I would like - it could kill me.

I take your point, but the kind thing would not be to make assumptions like that about people unless you actually know them and know they are slovenly pigs.

Hmm, her face seems to be very fat in proportion to her body, which really isn't all that large. So those photos are somewhat deceptive.

These pics are from the 35th Anniversary, so nearly a decade ago. And I do believe this was shortly after Jennifer had given birth.

Well said. I work in a hospital, and I can tell you there are lots of reasons a person can develop a weight problem without having eating problems. Even medication like cortisone can cause weight problems, to name only one.
But I think we're still missing the point here : it shouldn't matter how a person looks like. We can't all be perfect models (male or female). In fact, the majority of the world population AREN'T models.
It's just not fair to attack a person for his/her looks.

I agree that looks aren't the most important thing, but this is the USA we're talking about here, women are judged entirely on their looks.

What made it even shocking for me was how thin she was on the show, almost to the point of being unhealthy and underweight and now she's gone the opposite direction of being unhealthy and OVERweight.
