I'm going to get hated on too but I found in a rewatch Shaw was the most realistic human on the ship. He had flaws and all. I think that's what people like that he wasn't portrayed as all goody goody, and perfectly evolved he was just like us.

Shaw is an asshole. Todd Stashwick just did a great job making asshole look fun.

I enjoyed Shaw. One of the few things in the season that wasn't a tired retread, call back or homage.

Technically, he described himself as a "dipshit."

    He was a coward.

When Vadic seized the bridge, he herded the crew inside the ready room! What was to stop one of Vadic's minions from walking inside and taking a phaser to everyone in one fell swoop?

Titan was supposed to be an exploration vessel. He was so afraid of the Borg, he refused to allow her to carry out her mission.

For the briefest of moments Todd Stashwick reminded me of Ray's brother Robert from Everybody Loves Raymond in one or two scenes, nothing specifically just his way of speaking and posture

It's a shitty term, either way.

Which would be easier to swallow if fans were not adamantly against other similar characters being like us.

It feels very selective in the application of the standard.

Yep, if Shaw turned up on any other Trek show or any other season of Picard, the complaints would be deafening.

Had to look that one up.

In any case, given what we now know about Shaw's experience at Wolf 359, it's understandable that he might have been just a TAD hesitant to call someone a Borg name.

Except he wasn't hesitant. We saw in the finale in the log he recorded just before the season started where he recommended her for promotion he freely called her Seven of Nine there. He was well aware Seven of Nine was her preferred name and had no issue referring to her as such in official reports, yet he publicly deadnamed her and forbade her from using the name she identified as. In a best case scenario that's being a reprehensible douchebag for the sake of being a douchebag. In a worst case it's outright bigotry. That sort of behavior would not be tolerated in any respectable workplace in the modern day, not even the military. It's very shocking to see it's apparently tolerated in 25th Starfleet.

Don't worry, you have Discovery season 5 coming soon where you can have them crying for half the episode.

That joke is getting old. Get new material please.
There was like only 3 instances of crying in Season 4, and all of them made sense.

It is perfectly fair to note that fandom behaves much more favorably towards Shaw than towards Raffi, even though their flaws and strengths are quite comparable. I can't kuWHITE put my finger on why fandom loves this MAN more than her.

I love Raffi and she was pretty cool whole series. I get though that not everyone will like all the same characters.

I'm cynical enough to wonder whether Matalas would've excised Raffi from season 3 if he could've, given how much else of the first two seasons were jettisoned.
