What the frell happened?

They gave an estimate of the cost for the Ent-D bridge at Star Trek Vegas, but I can't remember what it was.

This is an interesting thread. When the season first aired, people were ape-$hit over it. I didn't realize people wound up disliking it so hard.

I thought it was fun enough at the time, but they leaned way too hard on fan service and reusing music cues from unrelated Trek movies. TBH, I take all of these current Trek shows as one and done, watch it and forget it kinda entertainment. But it was nice to see the band back together.

I want to say it was $1.4M, but I may have just hallucinated that.

I feel like they should have done more with it for the amount it cost, but I guess it gets even more expensive to have set more of the season on the Ent-D, because then the production has to faithfully rebuild a bunch of other sets, because they couldn't be on the bridge the entire time.

What I wish they would have spent more money on was Matalas Prime, it was a little too obvious that they used the same set for every scene.

Haha for some reason I'm remembering $1.3M. Might have been quoted by Terry Matalas or Dave Blass in one of the follow up podcasts with Inglorious Treksperts.

I think the elephant in the room is recreating a late 80s/early 90s TV set for the present day media where 1080p to 4K screens can pick up on wobbly, plywood sets covered with stickers much more easily.

Also I wonder about Seven and Raffi's "on and off" again relationship (and in future possible episodes of Legacy we could have Captain Seven in a similar situation to "Body and Soul" and in the silly hjinks has a fling with a young female captor, etc).

Most of those who loved it at the time probably still love it. It's just that the more negative views tended to get lost in the excitement, whereas now that the excitement has died down they have more room to breathe.

I'm one of the more negative ones, and even then I'd take it over most of the Berman era. It was mostly decent; I was just disappointed with the direction they took.

Season 1 was generally underrated and misunderstood (the ending was a bit rushed and bloated), Season 2 had a OK start and better ending than S1 (but dangerously sagged around the middle when it got too bogged down in a mundane alternate near future Los Angeles), and Season 3 was hokey in its conception but brilliant in its execution.

Picard is flawed television but makes for great multi-episode mini-movies.

Season 3 is perfectly average content and enjoyment to watch. It's not the best thing ever, a n d it's not the worst.

Which might be considered damning with faint praise at this point since it feels like Trek must always be a mind blowing experience.

It had some entertainment value the first time around, mostly just in a guilty pleasure sort of way. It does not hold up to rewatches though.

I suppose then it depends on what one values. To me, it was a decent ride that I probably won't revisit, but I don't revisit a lot of things, even Trek. Last Trek thing I watched, besides recent shows, was ST 09.

Somewhere in the bloated and padded mess of Picard season 2 is a pretty decent 2-2.5 hour movie.

In general, I find a lot of the Kurtzman-era seasons have story arcs that can't justify being as long as they are. I give the first season of Discovery some credit for breaking up the story into sub arcs, even if it's still my least favorite season of the show.

I still think the biggest misstep was killing Shaw, he would have made a fantastic captain especially with how his character developed. Anyway, Picard S3 was a gift and we were lucky to get it after the horribly mediocre (at best) first two seasons and it shows that they're still capable of producing Star Trek people want.
