What technology do want to see developed

Self-replicating nano-technology and advanced AI.

Those two things might allow many of the things all of you want to become a possibility.

it'll devour us all!

Nah, only if you program it to. And if someone DID program them to, you could program other bots to get rid of the hostile ones. Think AV program on steroids.

Actually, from the reading I've done on the subject, scientists envision a global net of small bots that could detect and eliminate any bots considered hostile the moment they entered the system.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned warp drive (or some such equivalent so mankind can stretch out into space and start exploring the galaxy.

Unless they break their own programming. VOY's Doctor wasn't programmed to be a fully sentient being, but he gradually became one. Any AI of sufficient complexity would probably do so, eventually.

I want to see the development of clean, renewable, and sustainable energy technology that allows us to move away from our dependence on fossil fuels.

Global oil production may already be at its peak, meaning that the worlds energy demand could start outstripping the supply. Because of this I fear that we are running out time to transition to a new energy infrastructure.

I planned on writing a similar post when I found this thread. Holodecks, nanotechnology and fusion powered spacecraft are really cool, but won't mean much to humans that are cold, hungry, and in the dark.

the idea of any governments with legitimate weather control capabilities is a terrifying thought.
Especially since there would probably be less to no accountability.
