What species would you want to be?

Q would be my first answer, but seems kinda unfair....maybe a Betazoid? Their full on telepaths. That would be pretty cool, plus, they look human!

I honestly don't know which i would want to be....my husband however swears that i am part Klingon. I don't think he means that in a good way..........

I think I'd like to be Vulcan. I'd be less emotional and my mind would be disciplined enough for me to be a scientist (I'm interested in the sciences, but I don't have the aptitude.)

I'd want to be a science officer on a starship devoted to exploration of unknown regions (as opposed to spending most of my mission in Federation space).

Why is it so many of you guys want to give up your emotions? :(

That's one of the perks, to my mind, about being Cardassian: Cardassians get to have the eidetic memory and ability to block out telepaths and mind-meld attempts, without having to destroy their ability to feel.

^ That's why I went for Romulans instead of Vulcans, really. I admire the Vulcans very much, but I'm too human, I guess, to even consider giving up emotions.

And besides, Vulcans don't give up emotions. They suppress them. Sounds uncomfortable as heck to me!

Horta.

I would join Starfleet and become a redshirt that could burrow through rock and burn hostiles to death with my acid. :)

I would love to be a rogue Vulcan who would not live on Vulcan and would refuse to suppress their emotions! :techman:
But I would not be a religious nutjob like Sybok! I'd be a free spirit - and I am already a bit of rebel who never wanted to conform to the majority views and expectations of my society, so this would be perfect for me. I would still have all the cool telepathic abilities and super-strength, but I would not suppress my emotions. I could have sex whenever I wanted (Vulcans can have sex whenever they want, Pon Farr or not Pon Farr - D.C.Fontana said it!) but I would also have the perfect excuse whenever I am chatted up by someone I do not find attractive - I'd let them know that I was not in Pon Farr and I'd let them believe in the misconception that Vulcans can't be aroused any other time, and the boring guy would be gone in a second! :rommie:

Also, I am a vegetarian, so being a Vulcan would suit me fine.

That's all great, but I would not like to grow up in a society like the Cardassian one or have to endure their educational system  I could never adapt to their way of life and would constantly challenge authorities and butt heads with the people who tried to order me around. And that would be very dangerous... Romulus would not be a good option for me for the same reason. (But I would rather be a Cardie than a Rommie, because modern Rommie forehead ridges are so damn ugly :cardie: :rommie: ). If I survived long enough on Cardassia, I'd certainly become a dissident and would probably have to leave the planet.

Come to think of it, maybe being a human growing up in the Federation would still be the best option... I'd have more freedom than most other species.

I enjoy being part of the human species...

However, I'll probably be hitting on any attractive females of the Vulcan, Romulan, Bajoran, Andorian, Caitian, Deltan, Orion, and Betazoid species...:D

[Of course, I won't forget the females from my own species]

Well, yeah. Earlier I had specified being a Romulan located on some planet faaaaaar from the homeworlds, but I forgot to repeat that when I mentioned it again.

I think I'd end up as a dissident as well...but I would not want to be away forever. I'd want to help rebuild Cardassia after the end of the war.

And is ALL of the Cardassian educational system a bad thing?? Personally, given my own experience in the anarchy that was the school system when I was growing up, I would have LOVED being in a place where there is DISCIPLINE, where learning is taken seriously and slacking and bullying and the like strictly not tolerated.

If we could just subtract the lies and racial stereotyping and such, they would really have something going.

If we accept that the Cardassian educational system is anything as described in A Stitch in Time, it is completely creepy to me, even without any lies or racism, and not something I'd ever want to undergo.

There was a great deal of bullying in the Cardassian education system. Learning to survive the politics was all part of the education!

That's one of those areas where I disagree with A Stitch in Time. With obedience to authority and submission being so high on the Cardassian priority system, I would think that extreme enforcement of order and decorum would be expected--step out of line even a bit and get smacked down. Now, in training academies after you're out of your primary/secondary education, yeah...I think hazing would happen (for the military and Obsidian Order), but personally, I would think that unless you get into one of those two disciplines, things would be STRICT.

Well, as it was already pointed out, Vulcans still have emotions, but they know how to control them. I can't talk for anybody else, but from my point of view, that's very attractive: mastery, power and control. Emotions can be random, messy stuff: they strike you without warning, mess with your head, make you do stupid things. For some, giving up emotions can be about not being hurt. For me, it's more about not hurting people I care about: I don't have a temper usually, but I've been known to be quite mean if I get pissed enough. I'm not sure I can explain it well, but emotions are different from feelings. Emotions are short-term, immediate responses to a situation: you are sad because of this, you are happy because of that, you are mad because of something else. Feelings are long-term, stable connections with something or someone: you are in love with someone, you despise something, you respect some people. Vulcan discipline, as it was presented in the series, allows you to master your emotional response, while leaving you able to act in accordance to your feelings (even if you may not express them): Spock clearly feels friendship for Kirk, Sarek married Amanda because he loves her, and Vulcans in general abhors violence. I can see how living a life of quiet measure is an attractive idea, without the ups and down of raw emotions.

Beside, the ears. Everybody digs the ears.

I'm sticking with human. Having been in the miliary all of my life I have always noticed that for the most part there are no real military types in Trek. There has to be some of that sort about.

I think by career path would be one of the guys who commands the part of the federation that goes to it whwn all else fails. When diplomacy or beaming down with a hand phaser is not an option. When gearing up and going to it is needed.

I guess that would put me closer to being Cardassion.

I don't think this is a very interesting question, personally.

The better one is, what species WOULD you be. That is to say, which alien forehead are you wearing? Because, after all, the real question is about which trek race you identify with, not which trek race you would PREFER to identify with, and the Trekiverse has archetypes for pretty much every human condition conceivable.

Speaking for myself, probably Bajoran: I've spent most of my life being screwed by forces alot more powerful than me and finally saved from the bring of annihilation after agreeing to be screwed by forces alot more powerful than me. Although, to the OP, I aspire to a more Vulcan philosophy: whatever's going on, whatever the problem is, however difficult or painful the reality, suck it up an do the most LOGICAL thing, whatever that happens to be.
