Is there some piece of music, whether a "regular" song, TV theme, or commercial jingle that you would be hesitant to admit to your friends or family that you liked?
Two of mine are the theme from Banana Splits and The Last Farewell, by Roger Whittaker.
You should never be embarrassed about liking those.
The Banana Splits were a staple part of my after-school TV watching in the '70s, and Roger Whittaker's voice is so rich and melodious, I'd listen to him sing the phone book.
Awhile back on another forum, somebody posted a question asking "what is a polka?" and included a couple of Youtube videos as examples. The first was definitely not a polka. The second could be, depending on how it was played (it's not a polka unless you can dance to it, using real polka steps). That piece is known to me as "Una Paloma Blanca." I went searching for it on Youtube, and chanced on a video by George Baker Selection.
Now I'm addicted to that damn song. It's so bouncy and cheerful, and most here would probably laugh at what the band is wearing (bell bottoms and high heels on the guys), but damn, they were
cute!
I'll also admit that I love the theme song to
Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego?. I've heard Rockapella in other kinds of performances - they did an
a capella concert on PBS one year, and were also featured in one of the Folgers coffee commercials.
