What should the uniforms look like

If I had my choice they would use jumpsuits similar to ENT's. I like them because they make me think of a space program more than the too colorful TOS and TNG uniforms or the military Wrath of Khan uniforms.

Don't know if this has been asked, but what style do you think they will make the uniforms, will it be jumpsuits or something along the lines from Tos but better looking and fitting or could it be like the style from the wrath of khan more military

This depends on when the movie takes place.

If it's during the Academy years (and I don't see how we can see Kirk at the Academy AND Chekov), the uniforms could be anything and not violate what we've seen.

If it's pre-WNMHGB, again, it's open.

If it's between WNM... and the series, it'd have to be one or the other. Not much room there for a third variation on the uniform.

If the movie takes place during the same period we know as TOS, then it HAS TO use the original uniform style.

If it doesn't, I shall be miffed.

And shall pout.

Greatly.

And a lot.

For a while.

At least.

The costumes should look like the ones in the production run of TOS with the massively greater production values (e.g. money) of the movie budget. If they do that, the uniforms will look great.

By the mid 23rd century, I expect that we'll have clothing with heavily integrated nanocomputing power that adjusts automatically to our environment
Something like this, then?

I'm still hoping that this turns out to be some sort of re-boot in which case Abrams is free to do whatever he wants, including re-design the uniforms. Personally, I'd like something that looks more classy and realistic than the bright, primary-colored, glorified t-shirts from TOS. They just don't look like proper uniforms to me.

(I didn't grow up with TOS, so I'm not particularly fond of them)

I've never had a problem with the TOS series uniforms. The colors, while obviously a concession for getting people to buy color TVs, remind me of the brightly colored jackets worn by flight deck personnel on our own aircraft carriers. It's an ease of recognition thing.

That said, I wish they would have kept the color scheme from 'The Cage' and those ginchy (yes, ginchy) away team jackets and equipment straps. (I always hated the suede equipment belts from the early first season.) From an in-universe standpoint, gold, blue, and red makes more sense than gold, blue, and sand though for ease of department recognition.

So hopefully we'll get something between 'The Cage' and 'WNMHGB' or appopriate to whatever era it's set in, I should say.

I think they should either be like Pike-era uniform or something totally new (maybe brigde the gap between ENT).

I would have to say either the enterprise type jumpsuits OR the tos uniforms..I personally expect to see the TOS era uniforms..but you never know..just PLEASE dont use the TMP uniforms....

If it is in an era we've seen the uniforms of, the uniforms should have the spirit of the ones we've seen. I don't might a higher quality re-design - because let's face it, the "uniforms" are loose pants and loose sweaters that look dirt cheap, and somehow I don't see the Federation have to cut back on uniforms.

In that veign: SKIRTS! They're a bloody must for some of the women, even in the Cage and WNMHGB era. We should women in either, showing they can choose. In fact, I'd like to see a kilt variant for the males. And I'd love Scotty wearing one, he's Scottish after all, and his dress uniform in TOS had an actual Scottish tartan kilt, so I see him wearing one, if not just for the scene:

Two guys in background. One looks at Scotty and leans over to other guy, saying softly: "I never got why any man would want to put on the skirt variant."

Scotty (having heard): "Laddy, how 'bout you rephrase that?"

Ensign: "Uh, sir?"

Scotty: "I'm not deaf, not even a wee bit."

Ensign looks nervous during the pregnant pause, everyone snickers at the Ensign's expense.

Scotty: "Men don't wear skirts, laddy, men - real men - wear kilts."

If this is in fact a true prequel, and one that is supposed to take place early in Kirk's command of the Enterprise, then they have no choice but to use the uniforms seen in Cage and WNM. Anything else -- along with any major redesign of the NCC-1701 -- means its reimagining.

I don't agree. On present-day US Navy ships, there's any number of uniform styles that the crew can wear (AFAIK, it's the captain's discretion, they set the uniform of the day). No reason why Starfleet couldn't do something similar. For all we know, the style as we saw in TOS was one of 4 or 5 different classes of uniforms.

that i anatomically impossible because i am a heterosexual guy and for me wearing this kind of cat suits in Xi movie(i wish), i would be okey with that(after intense workout) Thou i would recommend they digitally minimize the genital area before releasing it to theater .
