What should change about the possible new Star Trek Experience?

thrown together may have been the wrong choice of wordslol...

Also, i would expect that even with a limited amout of time they could, would, and should do Quarks correctly. If they dont they risk the backlash of trekkies going there once and never going back. put simply, they cant afford to do it wrong, as they would lose repeat business (which as discussed on this board earlier, it vital to its existence)

Fear not, they will most likely get it right. to fit out a bar is a very quick proccess, and the majority of the next 6 weeks or so, would probably be spent making the place as authentic as possible

I just read a post on another site from someone that has talked to the manager of Neonopolis, and it doesn't look good. He is estimating that it will open May 2010 (yes, not 2009), so the groundbreaking ceremony scenario does sound likely. He even went to specifically ask if this was the date for the entire attraction, and his reply indicated that the likelihood of Quarks, shops or museum to open this year is very slim.

^^^That jibes with the limited info I've been getting as well. While I would dance throughout Fremont Street if they could get Quark's and retail open for the movie, I'm really not expecting this to happen by then.

They were, after all, off by 6 months in the opening of STTE Classic.

It takes time to do things right; I hope they are taking the time.

KHAAAAAAAAAAAN!

While I definitely want it to be done right (ie not "thrown together"), the thought of waiting until 2010 for there to be even a single piece of STTE-A in place gives me cybernetic heart failure...

trekker670, could you possibly repost the text of what you read, or give a link...I am most curious...

Biggshow and Trekker670

Whilst i really hope your both wrong, i'm starting to see where your both coming from and think your most likely right. big shame though eh.

At least with them taking the extra year to get any of it open, they can spend the time to make the place as good as possible. every cloud has a silver lining

The Las Vegas Sun had a new article on the Neonopolis developement posted on March 16th. STTE-A is featured prominantly, but sadly no new news. Also, they are still adamately sticking to the May 8th opening date. Does anyone have any recent pics/video? It's been 3 weeks since I was there, and it looked like they had barely done any construction. I would love to be there for the grand opening, but based on how it looked then, it seems like there's no way it will done by then. It scares me that they keep promising a date and that they won't be able to deliver. After all, May 8th is only 6 weeks away!

Interesting that some of the design sketches include a large-scale mock-up of the movie Enterprise, with an escalator leading into the docking port on the secondary hall, are seen in that report.

That was interesting.

I've been avoiding as much of the promotional material from the new movie like the plague so I could be wrong, but is it possible this is just some concept art from the movie? It just seems a little ambitious to be design work for the new installation.

That looked like promotional art from the original Experience to me, though they are images I've never seen before. It's not from the movie, it's obviously a gigantic, glitzy contemporary thing they are depicting.

Given the grand scale, I assume it was early STTE stuff. From what we've read here, Neonopolis does not seem to be grasping that high.

Thank you all for your posts here. My wife and I are both Trek fans and have had a trip to Vegas in the works for May 8th for a while. We were excited when we heard our first trip to Vegas would coincide with the opening.

It will be a disappointment if nothing's ready.

Hello Everyone,

I have some bad news....unless things change.

I have spoken with Rohit Joshi (Neonopolis), he advises that the opening for STTE will not happen until at least May 2010.

I asked about Quark's and the retail shop for the movie opening....It does not look good.

I will be in touch with him in the weeks and months to come about ideas and upgrades.

If true, that sucks big time. It's not "the project is dead," but it's still bummer news. I had already blocked out time off work to to travel to the new Quark's the May 8 weekend. :(

Thank you for the update, please let us know if you hear more.

I was really looking forward to being there for the opening. :(

I think it's important to remember that when STTE-A opens, we will definitely know about it. There will be a lot of press. Our friends from STTE Classic will let us know they've been rehired. There will be contests to attend opening day (probably as part of some "Space Station Collection" of DVDs and Blu-Ray:) ). In other words, there will be no need for speculation or rumor; it will be obvious to anyone paying attention.

Here's some silver lining; maybe with this delay they can take the time to really plan out how the Neonopolis space can be used to fully integrate each addition to STTE-A as it happens and really put the time and money into being a bigger and better Experience.

Patience is a virtue.

Personally I'd rather wait a little longer and have a kick-ass installation rather than something haphazardly thrown together at the last minute.

Take it on the road to a lot more places. I live in WV and nothing like that has ever came into our capital city..expand it's coverage to reach more people..there are avid fans everywhere.

RATS! Was making plans and all for May 8. Well, I can wait...unless someone hears a contradication otherwise!?!

I have a call in to Joshi... not expecting a personal call-back, but I did strongly encourage him to control the information being spread and get the word out - one way or another - regarding the 050809 date. You and I are, I'm sure, not alone in having already sketched in plans to be in Vegas that Friday in the hope that the new Quark's would be the place to celebrate the new movie's premier.

Frankly I seriously... seriously... doubt, as many others have said, that they could be ready to open even just the bar in time. Yet talk of the May 8 opening date persists, even in respectable and normally accurate media like the Los Angeles Times (most recently mentioned March 23).

I suppose miracles are possible and we could all be in for a pleasant surprise, but you'd assume they'd've said something by now if that were the case. I've pretty much given up hope and more readily believe that it'll be at least a year from now.

just had a couple of thoughts:

if this place doesnt open till next may (ish), i doubt most of the original staff will be back. it would have been nearly two years since the last one closed and the majority would have moved on and found something else. i still hope to see people like darren, 3of 6, and april back though.

i also get the feeling that the new experience is going to be haevily based on TOS. since TOS or at least the new movie is what is being pushed at the moment. if they want to draw the non trekkies, it would have to be to a a place that they would recognise and that would most likely be the new movie. i hope to see the DS9 set brought back, but i doubt we will do. The original experience was built at a time when DS9 was popular and familiar to people, but since that finished over 10 years ago, i think they will go with something people would have seen more recently.

just speculation of course. any thoughts? i'd be interested to hear what you think Biggshow, especially about why they chose to model the original on DS9 (if you have any insight that is)

My supposition is the the groundbreaking ceremony will be on May 8, 2009. Prominently featured will be a cannon firing a real live Canon-Nazi Fanboy to start JJ Abram's new era of LIVING STAR TREK. :techman:
