What should change about the possible new Star Trek Experience?

I heard that visitors couldn't go on the promenade, that it was held for special events. It'd be neat to have access to that, and maybe have some gift shops or something to make it like the DS9 one. All for a larger Quarks... =)

A better projection system for the Klingon enounter would be first on my list.

Second. Dabo tables. HOW THE H3!! can you have Quark's without Dabo tables? AND THIS IN LAS VEGAS NO LESS !!

The Promenade was the lower-level shopping area at STTE, modeled after DS9's promenade. Quark's was located there. Not only was the public allowed there, but it was the "free" section of STTE (you could just walk in, no admission). If you went on one of the paid adventures, you exited onto the promenade.

When the attraction originally opened there was a second level to the promenade that only staff could access... you'd see the actors portraying aliens up there sometimes. A few years before the closure that area was rmodeled into the Captain's Lounge, a special meeting/events room. The walls retained the DS9 upper-level window styling, and you couldn't go up there unless you booked the room for a special event.

One of the first questions we original employees asked and there are two answers related to this question: What are the rules for dabo? The NV gaming bureau (or whatever) would not sign off on a game with no rules. Also, Rick Berman was not in favor of actual gambling taking place in the Experience. I know, I know...

Rick Berman wouldn't have any authority over The Experience. I can see why someone would complain (they want a more family atmosphere and some easily offended people might have a problem with someone gambling), but I'm not sure why people should care what Berman thinks.

At the time we were in prep for opening, Berman had quite a bit to say about what The Experience would and would not have. For instance, he had final say over what went into the various videos played around the establishment. For all intents and purposes, he was Mr. Star Trek as far as the studio and its licenses went. The explanation I gave you was the explanation the employees were given when we asked the question. Whether it's true or someone was passing the buck is open to debate.

Question for Biggshow... I know you mentioned that you've been told it's not likely to make it open in time for the movie's release... any word or feeling as to if they are trying to get things open in time for next year's convention in August? I'd figure that would be a priority, moreso than anything.

As far as I know, Creation has a contract with the LV Hilton, so even if the new STTE is open, chances are, the convention will still be held at the Hilton.

That doesn't mean that us Trek folk won't be flocking over there if it's open by then.

I wasn't saying that the convention would go anywhere... I was asking if the Experience would be open when all the Trek fans fly out to Vegas.

Without a lot of concrete info, "my source" tells me that they are scrambling like mad to open the place but to do the job right means that a May or June opening is unlikely. That doesn't mean it's impossible and I'm sure by Aug., having at least Quark's and the new retail area open is a priority. We'll see. I'm sure getting some chunk of the summer tourist and fall convention trade is foremost in their minds.

Wasn't there supposed to be an announcement of some kind on the 12th> Does anyone have nay news?

i know what you mean. if its too based around TOS/new movie, it would alienate a lot of other fans. If the warp core breach isn't on the menu i will be gutted. i have to spend a lot of money to come to the experience, i want it just the way i remember it lol

Totally agree. I've nothing against the new movie, I'm looking forward to it in fact, but I'd hate to lose the perceptions of what Trek was.

The terms of the lease. That way they won't have to pull up stakes at the whim of TPTB!

"Okay, the latest news I have is that they delayed the announcement for 12/12/08, because the Neonopolis is awaiting some more of their investors support before beginning reconstruction".

- Taken from someone on the facebook group. anyone out there that can confirm this or with anything new to report?

I was the one that posted that on facebook, and I believe I got that information from this forum, I believe it came from Biggshow, but I'm not certain.

does seem that all the early hype and enthusiasm has dryed up somewhat. worries me slightly about it awaiting morfe financial support. too many fingers in the pie and they might mess it up.

Personally i think, the deal has already been cemented and plans put in place to build the thing, but they are waiting to see how much interest the new movie drums up before deciding how much money to spend on this place and exactly what it will be like. if the film is a success, expect a very large amount of investment and a brand spanking new experience (probably heavily based on the new movie). if not, expect the experience to be identical to the one we lost last year (maybe with some money spent on modernising some stuff - eg the klingon ride)

I have an update. go to this link and read the article. The experience has been confirmed and is looking like it is will open on the same day as the new movie. In stages though, with the museum , restaurant, and shops being first

Enjoy!

The guys from Trekcast.com recently made a trip down to Neonopolis and while there is a lot of construction going on, none of it looks overtly Trekian. OTOH, having set up Hallmark shops for close to 20 years off and on, most places don't look like they will eventually look til near the end.
