^Now that the economy has started to turn around, I think it is about time Marco Palmieri got rehired. His name is associated with many Star trek titles I have enjoyed (Vanguard, etc...). He appears to have had a positive influence on ST from what I can tell. Maybe with him at the helm again we can get a few of the series wrapped up:)

^ He works for Tor Books now.

Who was hired in his place?

As Defcon said, Marco's settled in quite nicely at Tor Books, as well as establishing his own consulting business, Otherworld Editorial. (In fact, he's the assistant editor on my upcoming novel Only Superhuman.) I don't think a return to Pocket is in the cards for him.

Obviously I can't speak for Marco. I'm just some guy. But my reaction to someone proposing a similar idea like that in my life is this:

Would you accept a job from an employer who had dropped you with no warning like a hot potato after you'd been very successful with them for seven years and made them lots of money?

I sure as hell wouldn't.

So far as has been publicly revealed, no one. His and Margaret Clark's workloads were just redistributed among other editors.

^Which isn't really that surprising since we can assume they were fired to cut back on money. It wouldn't save them much money if they just went and hired somebody new in positions they decided they couldn't afford anymore.

Yes, the economy is turning around. In late 2008 and 2009, publishers throughout the industry were laying off people in droves, and for a while after that, nobody in the industry was hiring; but last year, Tor hired Marco to a permanent staff position. So that's a sign of recovery right there, albeit an isolated case, of course. But the overall statistics show that unemployment rates are falling and new jobs are being created. It's a slow recovery, but it's a recovery.

From a purely American viewpoint, your economy may be on the mend and that's a seriously good thing. Same can't be said for the economies of other nations and let's not forget that the economic clusterfuck that spread through out the developed World almost five years can be traced back to America.

Given this is an international board and that international sales will figure into equations, although not surprising to have such an insular viewpoint, not all countries are recovering, some are seriously in trouble, but hell, as long as the good ol' USofA is getting better, screw the rest of the world right?

yes, thanks to the economic geniuses we've got in charge, we've had minimal growth, no growth and a shrinking economy for over six months and are now officially back in recession, whilst the unemployment rate continues to rise and few jobs are being created.

thanks a bunch George, David, Danny, Nick and all your brain-dead fuckwit ConDem buddies.

Not that the economic discussion isn't interesting, but how about those wacky TrekLit series? ;)

seems so far that SCE is the leading "write-in" option, while Klingon Empire is the leading from the pole options.

How about it, KRAD?

Also, what about an Excelsor series by Michael Martin, to accompany Forged in Fire and The Sundered?

How about something more daring: Would anyone actually want to conclude TOS, TNG, DS9 or Voyager? What shape would that even take, given the ... dispersal of some characters?

I think from a storyline perspective the TNG we had seen on screen has been concluded. The post-Nemesis TNG and Titan are basically its spin offs IMO.

TOS had been concluded (chronologically) in Generations. Anything following it falls under the heading of The Lost Era .

Basically, I think Pocket has done a very good job in expanding the franchise (in all its series) and showing the readers what could be done post-conclusion/cancellation.

I would love to see an Excelsior series. Good idea Ron:bolian:

Thanks Patrick :) - I think very highly of Forged in Fire - IMO it's the best thing Mangels and Martin wrote

If the want to do something brave they should do a Hazard Squad and a USS Kelvin series.
