Bonifay's death sentence was a pretty wild in-your-face moral dilemma for Keller in "Challenger". A no-win scenario as powerful as "Tuvix". I am curious how Diane Carey might have tackled future novels in this series after that unresolved cliffhanger.

Kevin Ryan's Errand series? Yes, book three of the second trilogy, "Sacrifices of War", definitively ends things.

It actually ends with an adaptation of the TOS episode, "Errand of Mercy", incorporated into the last volume. A much longer adaptation than the earlier James Blish version.
Was there any added stuff with the Errand series characters, or was it just a episode adaptation. I haven't read the Errand series yet, but I plan to sometime in next year or two.

I actually just ordered the last 5 books (Errand of Vengeance books 2 and 3, and the entire Errand of Fury trilogy) - The first book (Edge of the Sword) was an unexpected great read. Looking at it now, it's like proto-Vanguard :techman:

Seconded. This also relates to my discussion with Christopher upthread regarding New Earth and the Challenger novel. I think this plotline could have opened a great subplot and looking at it again this morning, it *still* seems like the "7th volume" of the New Earth mini series.

Also, and again linking this to my OP, I thought of another series that could be expanded - an early Lost Era series with the Excelsior (set after Forged in Fire) and the Enterprise-B. While both are "main starring role"-level ships, I think alternating stories could work here - or maybe just Excelsior by Mangels and Martin?:)

From memory, the book, "Errand of Fury: Sacrifices of War" becomes "Errand of Mercy" about halfway through the book. There's plenty of new stuff finishing off the events with all of Ryan's original characters.

It's not technically a unified series, and this technically wouldn't "conclude" it, but I still hope someday we'll see that Lost Era book about Ben Sisko on the Okinawa during the Tzenkethi War.

What about New Frontier? I'm slowly working my way through the series, and I'd like to see it all reach a definite conclusion.

It's my understanding that the Okinawa flashbacks in Rough Beasts of Empire were basically what that book became -- so we've already gotten that story.

Assuming that New Frontier won't be continuing long-term anymore, I'd like to see Peter David get the chance to do an epic finale and wrap it up. New Frontier was really a milestone in the history of TrekLit -- the first novel-original series. It's very important in the evolution of modern TrekLit practices, and it deserves a proper finale.

And I'd love to see Corps of Engineers get the chance to say its proper goodbyes, too. The poor S.C.E./CoE series came about ten years too early for the eBook market -- Pocket was being too innovative! If only they'd waited until the advent of the Kindle and the Nook, maybe there would have been more of a market. Oh well. But the COE characters were wonderful, and it should have a proper goodbye, too.

SCE! SCE! Also, SCE!

Then again, is this specifically about bringing back and concluding a series? If so, then, well, yeah, I'd take a proper conclusion over abandoning it. OTOH, I also think the concept is still good for more stories first.

I second this proposal:bolian:

I would love to see this to. I just Blind Man's Bluff, and while I did enjoy it I'm really hopping we can we can get at least one more that could serve as a better finale. BMB did kind of tie some stuff up, but there is still a fair amount of story elements that could be tied up better.

I'd like to see the Stargazer series brought back and have the series concluded.

The Buried Age, did finish the Stargazer story. It also filled in the years between the end of the Stargazer mission and the beginning of TNG (where Picard is concerned).

I wouldn't mind more Lost Era books. (I heard about one being planned to deal with the Okinawa during the Tezekathi (Sp?) War).

Ah. Well then, nevermind. I haven't gotten to RBoE yet, so I didn't know. :techman:

^As stated above, the Tzenkethi war Lost Era book isn't happening. That was a project Marco Palmieri was trying to develop when he was editing the books, but once he was laid off in the '08 economic crash, the idea went away with him.

^Now that the economy has started to turn around, I think it is about time Marco Palmieri got rehired. His name is associated with many Star trek titles I have enjoyed (Vanguard, etc...). He appears to have had a positive influence on ST from what I can tell. Maybe with him at the helm again we can get a few of the series wrapped up:)
