What sci fi movie might've made a good Trek episode?

But the sequels and the novel are pretty clear that the monolith was created by an alien race, so many people tend to interpret the first movie with that in mind.
IIRC I believe Clarke is quite clear that the novels (including the novelisation) are not intended to be the definitive and only explanation of the events of the film; I presume the sequel film - based on one of the novels - is included in this assumption. 2001 is an intentionally open ended film.

Yeah, I recall rather well argued theories that supoose the Monoliths may not have been alien at all.

And I prefer these other theories myself. But the sequels and the novel are pretty clear that the monolith was created by an alien race, so many people tend to interpret the first movie with that in mind.

I don't think I've ever heard that theory myself. Anyone care to explain, or point me to where I could read up on it? Thanks!

^^Yes, both Clarke and Kubrick gave interviews saying that they hoped 2001 could be interpreted in many diferent ways. Clarke even said that if someone completely understood the movie, they had failed. I believe 2001 stands out from the other movies (or movie, I'm not sure how many sequels there were) and novels. It should be analyzed on its own.

EDIT: This was in response to Kegek's post.

I thinking "Logan's Run" or "Fahrenheit 451" would be great in the Trek universe.

Of course Deathrace 2000 would be awesome! :)

How about Silent Running? That would have been cool. It could actually be a follow-up to "The Way to Eden". :rommie:

Yep, and of course "Galaxy Quest" showed Shatner exactly how to do a giant orange rock creature properly!

How about "Barbarella"? Kirk would have enjoyed the challenge.

"Earth Girls Are Easy"?

Omega Man, & Silent Running interesting ideas.

Enemy mine was be tough because of the time factor, one crew member.( Kirk most likely), would have to be lost on a planet for quite awhile.

Though not a movie, Dr Who's Logopolis would have made a neat Spock adventure with the computer operators keeping the universe in balance with their numbers & calculations.

Definitely Forbidden Planet

Metropolis
Oh, Kegek will SO have a geekgasm when he reads this. :p

Am I that predictable? :p

I love Metropolis; but I only think the general idea and some of the less hallucinatory passages could be made into a TOS episode (though that'd still be awesome). I love the whole Moloch sequence, or the dance of Death and the seven sins; but unless it's explained with some space drug of the week Kirk's not that prone to hallucinate; nor is he going to encounter a robot modelled after his late mother that has now assumed the form of the Madonna he now loves.

:) And I bet they could make something out of 2001 too. They could go to a generic moon, find a "fascinating" monolith there, and eventually discover it was set up by a very advanced alien race many years ago, before World War V or the Earth-Andorian war.
