What projects are you working on or finished?

Today my father helped me finish a project we've worked on for a couple of weeks in my spare time. We made our own reindeer outdoor decoration hanging on the front of the house over the garage door.

I've had this idea for many, many years and finally got it done. I made a similar and slightly larger one for work two years ago, but this one was more personal and came off much closer to what I originally envisioned. It's a reindeer made of wood and in layers so there is something of a 3D effect to it. It's painted in gold reflective paint and outlined in white lights and a red bulb for the nose. It's about 5-1/2' in length and about 5' high and in a galloping pose. Hanging on the front of the house it's tilted upwards a bit as if it's leaping to the roof. And it has somewhat realistic proportions albeit stylized rather than being patterned in an exaggerated commercial style.

I think it came out pretty good. When I take some pics I'll post them.

Anyone else have a project currently going or having just been completed?

I just recently finished all the illustrations for the children's book I wrote, and I am in the process of submitting it to agents. Does that count? It was a lot of work!

I'm in the middle of putting as many of my older video tapes on DVD-R as I can. This massive undertaking (much bigger than I anticipated), has been going on since the middle of July when while watching one of my favorite old movies on VHS, I noticed the tape squeaking in the machine, and the tape itself was recorded in 1987. After a quick Amazon search, I discovered that it is not available on DVD, so I made one of my own. Good thing too, since the tape literally self-destructed just as I finished making the disk. At least I didn't lose my movie.

Tape age, plus the lack of certain DVD releases due to music rights issues and whatnot, prompted me to do this for other stuff too. So far I have copied:

China Beach (which I can only assume will be a music rights nightmare)
Eight is Enough (no idea why this hasn't been released yet)
The Six Million Dollar Man
The original Bionic Woman (both the subject of legal disputes)
Starman the TV series (See Eight is Enough)
WKRP in Cinncinnati (See China Beach)
TJ Hooker (since only the first two seasons are out)
Superboy (since only the first season is out)
Various historical and other documentaries
Various movie serials from the 1930's-1940's

And I plan to do others also until all my tapes are gone.

I'm in the midst of de-cluttering the house. My office was attacked first this weekend. I'll move onto other places during the week. I also alphabetized all my books because I'm a huge nerd.

Wow... projects. I had never thought to list them before. Now that I think about it...

33 inch Enterprise Plans (update): After cross checking my original version, I've collected together notes which I'm in the process of applying to a new version of these plans.

11 foot Enterprise Plans: I started this as a way to get to know the larger model better. I'm currently on hold with this one until I finish the 33 inch plans, but I've acquired a ton of great reference materials.

Enterprise Deck Plans/TOS Set Plans: The on going (and seemingly never ending project) to provide scaled interior and exterior elements that are open for others to use in similar attempts to show how they see the TOS Enterprise. Besides needing a final version of the exterior to work with (based on the 11 foot model), I need to redraw all of the sets used in the show in a form that I feel comfortable distributing them in. The redrawing part has proven to be quite tedious.

Original Enterprise Model Replica (first attempt): The point of my original 33 inch Enterprise plans was to build a model. And with limited experience (most of which from more than 15 years ago) I set out to see if I could make a reasonable replica (at two-thirds scale) of the original. This one is at a point that I would generally call finished.

NeXTAnswers conversion to HTML: Back in 1997 NeXT released the last version of it's NeXTAnswers collection of documentation on it's products. Those documents were (in large part) recreated in Apple's support articles pages, plus some new articles from between 1997 and 2001 when Apple ended support for NeXT products. Those articles have become harder to find on Apple's site and the original documents were in an RTF format that is difficult for many platforms to read. The object is to round out the missing documents and make all of them easily accessible on the web.

RhapsodyAnswers conversion to HTML: A couple years back I noticed that Apple had started overwriting articles about Rhapsody on their support site. Rhapsody was renamed Mac OS X Server when released to the public in 1999, and Apple has in subsequent years overwritten those articles with articles aimed at Mac OS X Server 10.x... which is a completely different operating system. I had backed up most of the articles and put together a collection similar to the old NeXTAnswers (including releasing it as a series of RTF documents). I'd like to take it one step further and make it easily accessible on the web.

NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP Resource Page updates & link fixes: There are a number of articles I've written but not put up and a number of links that are now dead that need fixing. I've been delinquent in keeping this page up with fresh content.

NEXTSTEP/OPENSTEP/Rhapsody Application Site: As time passes, and the web moves on, the number of sites that still host applications of these extinct platforms are starting to disappear. So to support my pages on them (which include links to various applications) I've been building a common applications holding site that I can link to from my resource pages.

Art Page: Mainly Trek related stuff... most of which I've shared either here or on other sites. I just want to have a place where one can find it easily (and then point and laugh  ).

Track & Field Page: I had a very lucky track career. Some of the best people in the sport took the time to help me and I feel I should return the favor to others. I ran track from 1982 to 1991 specializing in the 110m high hurdles. I also ran the 100m and 200m, and when forced the 400m and 400m hurdles. In 1996/97 I coached a the sprints/hurdles/jumps for Cuyamaca College and I still have all my workouts and notes from back then. I'd like to finally collect all that information together into a page on the subject.

Memoir: I've had (for the short time I've been around) a very colorful and eventful life. And I realized that as time passed I was having difficulty recalling all of it... which would mean that I most likely would have a much harder time some 40 years from now. The start I have right now is just short of 40,000 words, but has been slowed by the fact that the friend that was helping me has had to focus her attention on caring for her husband (who has cancer). I find writing to no one quite hard, but at least I gotten some of it down.
Sadly, the one common feature of all my projects is that none of them are revenue earning. :wtf:

Just finished my floors last week. I would like to start painting the rooms in those pics, but those floors took me a long time: I am sore, and I need a bit of a break. Perhaps in the new year.

- I'm currently editing/re-writing something I wrote. It wasn;t intended for anything special, just something to keep me occupied and to find out if I can write anything longer than a short story. I've only ever submitted/published short stories and in recent years haven't done much in the way of fiction, I'd like to find out if I could or not.

- I'm currently coming up with a media package to submit for something, if that works out I'll be involved in a creative project in the local area...

- In the wrestling world I have a little 'regeneration' project, coming up with new move-sets, image, outfit, persona... everything down to the walk. Sounds simple, it's not really :/

- Plus I'm working on a website for a local small company, which has led me to building a 'network' to act as a sort of portal so that each related company I work with can advertise each other in a small way... and if employee's want to get a profile to advertise their services instead of using Bebo... I'll be adding personal website templates, for a modest commission.

Of course, most of this all comes second to my "must play Mafia Wars" project.

WOW! Shaw, do you have any time left to earn a living at a regular job?

My own next thing is to tweak my custom made Santa costume for this year. And in January I want to get back to my own science fiction related projects: my TOS shuttlecraft plans, writing my SF novel and designing the starship that's a central element of the novel.

I finished writing a book recently. The book itself is done, down to the editing and typesetting, I'm just getting a cover sorted out.

So, I've started working on the next one, too.

I'm also making a Christmas gift for my wife.

Finally, I have a group writing project that I am leading. It's a bit up and down, and most of the people in it don't have a lot of experience with group projects. They have trouble committing to doing certain things. Too interested in being friendly and inclusive, I think. Good thing I'm in charge to make the executive decisions. :)

I used to try to juggle a whole bunch of personal projects at once, but I tend to not give things the attention they deserve that way. So, I try to only have a small number to worry about, and concentrate on them more fully.

At the moment still going through the "101 things in 1001 days" and have got about one third done. Hoping to get my hands on an NX-01 model kit and converting it into Columbia, although I want to make my Polar Lights 1701 the Farragut as well.

Preparing to be a preacher, trying to find out what is wrong with me so I don't die and can go back to school (got my first adrenal test this morning! Never had that one before). Trying to get the logistics settled to get a Bible study going (never taught one before). Mainly my focus has been to get through each day and being healthy enough to go to church during the week.

I just finished National Novel Writing Month, hitting my personal goal of writing 65,000 words in 30 days.

Working on two scripts, one novel, one illustrated children's story, several art projects and a costume.

Trying to pay rent and returning to finish school is slowing the progress of all but one ATM.

I have a final paper and presentation for my only class this semester to complete for Thursday. It's an overview of my fall internship... nothing huge.

I'm working on brand-new Web sites for four casinos.

I'm also working on our regional network sites in Acadiana, Louisiana, and Little Rock, Arkansas, while trying to spin up a new site for Sonoma, California.

No rest for the weary.

I finshed a charm necklace for my sister's Christmas present, I'm almost finished with a Christmas cross stitch for display, and I'm about to start another cross stitch project for my dad's present. It's something Mom and I are going to work on together- I stitch the picture, Mom will turn it into a pillow. :D

Working on two scripts, both original stories, re-writing my Masters of the Universe epic, and I just started re-writing Superman/Doomsday (the DVD).
