That is strange. Maybe CBS is hoping to get a few more DS9 DVDs bought.

There are a lot of possibilities:

Conflicting contracts, financial reasons (less money in the outflow prior to October), transfer issues (CBS needing more time to get the data formatted for one of the shows, errors in an initial attempt, etc.), etc.

I sympathize! If I didn't own the series, it would be horribly upsetting!!! I'm excited for the rest to be coming out though!

Probably some contracts thing if you ask me. DS9 may not be on TV much at all anymore, but that doesn't mean that some channel doesn't have an exclusive contract and not airing the show. It could be any number of other legal things, maybe the seasons of the show that are available on itunes are exclusive through that date, and they decided not to add seasons 6 and 7 prior to 1-5. Could be lots of things.
