What no Arkham City Thread?

soooooooo want this game but going to wait till christmas due to BF3 and Uncharted 3 immiment releases  but it sounds great so far.

How do you do that? I mean I know how to lay down custom waypoints but I take it you mean something else.

Hold down the detective mode button and it will scan it

Interesting. I thought i tried that but maybe not. When I get back to it tonight I'll give it a go. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Well if that doesn't work just tap it.

Oh and the replacement for the riddler secrets map is kind of cool as long as you don't KO the thug you're supposted to interrogate.

I'm discovering that I'm not really enjoying all the hand to hand combat and unfortunately that's a big part of the game. It seems harder this time but maybe I've just gotten that much worse since AA. I never can seem to get the hang of building the combos (I think the best I've gotten is like an 11, but 3 or 4 is more normal). For some reason just pressing a button or combination of buttons isn't all that much fun to me. I like the exploring, using the gadgets, solving riddles and finding trophies but I haven't gotten very far and I'm already tired of "press this button to attack, press that button to counter, and press these two buttons together to do this."

That being said, it's still a great game. Probably just need to turn down my difficulty to easy.

The fighting controls are exactly the same as the first game. There are a few extra combos that have been added this time around, but in general I've found the combat to be pretty much the same. Actually, since I already have the experience from the first game, I've been having a slightly easier time with the fighting.

Gah, the game is waiting for me in my mailbox and the earliest I will be able to grab it is tomorrow. Who can say when the earliest I can play it is?

I must just be slowing down and I just can't get the timing right. Honestly I wasn't that great in the first one but I actually enjoyed it. But this time it's more annoying than fun. It seems like the mobs I've been taking on are MUCH bigger than in AA.

Guess its' a case of "been there, done that."

Yeah, the mobs are quite a lot larger in this game. I love it, personally, but to each his own.

The difficulty has also been ramped up, too. The best analogue is that Normal mode in Arkham City is roughly on par with, if not slightly more difficult, than Hard mode in Arkham Asylum.

Well I restarted my game on Easy, it's challenging enough for me. As I said, the fights are my least favorite part anyway.

Speaking of challenging, man has anybody gotten the Riddler Trophy where you have to throw the remote control batarang through a airduct and have to make a hard right turn? Goddamn, I can NOT do that. It's so frustrating to know there's a trophy that I simply don't have the manual dexterity to get.

I'm hoping that it's going to turn out to be the aftermarket controller that I've bought for my PS3. I've seen some complaints about "dead zones" in this particular model, and hopefully that's the problem, not that I COMPLETELY SUCK THAT BAD. I'm gonna drag out my old, broken dual shock 3 and see if I can do it with that.

That actually makes me feel better. For awhile I was like "WTF is going on here?"

Wow, that boss fight against
Mr. Freeze
was just awesome. They really make you take just about every single skill you have learned and apply it. Afterwards, I felt kinda proud of myself for my ingenuity.

Well I got to the end of the batman story mode and
I can't believe they actually killed off Joker

I guess they were able to fit it into my mailbox, so I got ~30 minutes of playtime in last night. The intro was pretty awesome (I was spoiled a little bit from reading an NPR article of all things). I downloaded the Catwoman stuff before I started, and she was fun.

I set it on Hard and I am getting back into the fighting engine. There seems to be a little bit less leeway with counters as in AA I could punch a guy if I attacked right when the counter sign flashed, but now I pretty much have to counter each one.

Can't wait to get a little bit more time with it tonight.

Well as usual, turns out I'm a moron. I didn't realize during my umpteen attempts at getting this trophy that there are controls for the batarang that can be used while in the air. L1 for braking example. Did that, and it was a totally different story, almost like watching it in slow motion. Think I got on the 2nd try after learning about that.
