What next for Mass Effect?

Not really. The First Contact War was really onle a couple of minor skirmishes and then the brief siege of Shanxi. It wasn't a full-blown war. If it had been, humanity would have gotten crushed, and the story of Mass Effect would have been a lot different.

The easiest thing to do would be to just pull a TNG and flash forward a hundred years. This way you can start fresh while still pulling from previous installments

The only problem I have with that is...well, where would Humanity be? Would that have giant Galaxy Class-Sized ships, or would we still be recovering from the Reapers? And what about all those Prothean Ruins we found with certain DLC, (AKA Firewalker, and exploration in ME1). If we go forward a hundred years, will we get a definite answer as to what those mean? I mean, I just can't see ME-Verse Humanity being a ton more advanced, or a ton more different.

The way I see it, if you are going to jump ahead one hundred years, as in TNG, you really need to have more advanced stuff. If the Normandy is a Constitution class, then what will be the Galaxy class replacing it in the future?

Well, that would be up to the creative staff at BioWare now wouldn't it? After all, they tackled something similar in KotoR, except in the reverse ;)

I have faith that if they take their time they could make it work. Emphasis on "take their time"

It would. Sorry about having a Nerd Rage back there.

I dunno. I'm really not sure what they would do. I personally would like a "Life in the Verse" type thing. Set on a freighter, buildable crew. Yanno, Firefly style!

I for one am holding out for the Mass Effect - Mako Mountain Climbing Squad driving simulator.

Personally, I'd probably set it in the past, with events leading up to the events of the first game, perhaps a century in the past to leave room for expansion. Maybe the game would have a very different feel to it due to a difference in technology, similar to how the KOTOR games have a different feel from the rest of Star Wars.

Put it a century before ME1, and you wouldn't be playing as a human, as Earth hadn't discovered mass effect technology until the 2140s.

Glad to see someone else out there likes my idea of a Mass Effect game done in the style of Firefly. I think it would be the best way to really showcase the mass effect universe without being too similar to the original trilogy.

We have at least one BioWare employee posting here, and while I'm sure that he / she / it can't divulge any details, I wish we could get some insight as to how BioWare's operations have changed since the EA purchase. Prior to 2007, the company released a full game every two - three years or so. Since then, we've seen Mass Effect and Sonic Chronicles in 2007/8, Dragon Age: Origins in 2009, Mass Effect 2 and the Awakening expansion for Dragon Age in 2010, and Dragon Age II, The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3 in 2011.

I'm aware that BioWare has multiple studio locations, but ramping out so much product in so little time can't possibly be a good thing. It's like how Tiburon has become little more than a Madden factory.

Well, if we have BioWare employee working here, hopefully they're reading this thread and mention our concerns to their supervisors

I wouldn't object to them revisiting the Mass Effect universe eventually, but after ME3 I'd rather see something new from Bioware.

I hope that they continue with more RPG's in the same vein as what they've already done. It'd be nice if there was a way to continue the Shepard saga beyond ME3, but it's not likely. I'd hope that they'd stay away from prequels.

I would be in favor of them doing other types of games in the universe. An FPS would be fun, maybe some sort of space fighter game could work too.

What I'd like to see in general is more variety in the landscape, but I think this can be attributed to Bioware's games in general rather than the game itself, and what I mean by that is that everything seems to happen on a flat plane, with not much in the way of up or down aside from staircases. I guess that's more in the way of console limitations or what used to be console limitations.

Those are good ideas.

I would like to see what happens after the war. Maybe theres a lot of destruction and lawless systems. Your character can buy a ship and recruit a crew. You can choose to be a merc, working legit jobs like transporting goods through dangerous regions, escorting other ships, and a bounty hunter, or you can choose to be a criminal, by stealing and assassinating.

I would like it to be a third person shooter rpg with co-op.

^ I think co-op would cripple an rpg to be honest. Either the second player would be totally superfluous or they'd mutilate the single player experience to shoehorn it into the game.

I do like the idea of the Firefly-esq format, but they're still need to be a central plot and arcing story. It can't all just be about getting work and choosing between being an "honest" smuggler or a cut-throat pirate. Basically you'd need something to give you a reason the keep playing other that an endless series of sidequests.

I'm sure if they went the Firefly route, as I hope they do, they could come up with a pretty good overall plot to go with it. Perhaps a buisness deal went bad and you and your crew got double crossed and now your tracking down those who screwed with you. Or maybe someone you care about has been kidnapped and you are forced into a life of crime in order to free them. Those are just 2 ideas I came up with off the top of my head. God knows what the writers at Bioware could come up with. I'm curious as to what kind of ship you could operate. I'm sure they wouldn't stick you with one of those god awful looking Earth freighters seen in the games so far. Hopfully we would get something with a more interesting, aged and lived in look like Serenity, The Millenium Falcon, or even the vastly underrated Betty from Alien Resurrection.

Sure the new game will be different with co-op, but that doesn't mean it would be a bad game. Just different. It can also have an central plot with side quests. The main quest can be nuetral with different consequences depending wich side you pick.
