I want to change my vote to October now

Pretend you're in Chicago and just vote again.

An...odd looking ship. It makes the Oberth class look well thought out re: getting to the torpedo launcher. We know there are catwalks inside a warp nacelle thanks to Enterprise, but man that's a long trip. Site-to-site transport maybe?

Lower Decks comes out August 6th. I'm not sure how many episodes we are getting, but I think it will be mid-october early November now for Discovery. I'm glad we got a date for the next Trek series though.

10 episodes for Lower Decks, putting the finale ~8 October...so yea mid-October possibly early November!

Bleh. Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against Lower Decks, but I was really hoping DSC S3 would come out sooner than October/November. Unfortunately, though, it makes sense because it lines up with what Cyrus said.

Actually, I'm starting to wonder if they might not just withhold Disco until January. Assuming Disco S3 does premiere immediately after Lower Decks ends, in this case October 15, a thirteen episode season would end January 7. Since I somehow doubt they're going to continue having new episodes during the Christmas season (most shows don't, even streaming shows) and January is typically a big month for CBSAA Star Trek, they might just decide to premiere it then.

Although a though occurs while writing this. They might do a split season. If the first half of the season is seven episodes, that takes them up to the end of November, then they can have the second half premiere in January to have their big January hoopla. A way of having their cake and eating it too.

So, yeah, I figure we're either getting a split season starting in October, or a whole season starting in January.

They may split the Discovery season like they did first season. First part start in October, second part in January. Alternatively there could be Discovery in October and Short Treks in January or vice versa.

I want to change too. But I won't. I could see them doing a split season starting in October. Go to the week before Xmas then resume the week of the last NFL playoff.

My guess is that Discovery’s return will depend less on how quickly production is completed than how quickly CBS thinks it can get another show ready. They’ll want to space things out — LD In August, them Discovery positioned sometime between LD and SNW or Picard season two. The way the pandemic is looking, we could be in for a long wait.

Same with the Oberth.

Same with the Oberth.

Oberth had a deck or two under the nacelles. A long trip, but you could avoid going into the nacelles to get to the bottom section.

This new ship, outside of transporting, would have the crew going through the nacelles to get to whatever is down there (deflector plus torp launchers?)

Since it's Lower Decks, you know they'll have to dedicate an episode to this.

Since I already imagined transporting in the Oberth to the secondary hull rather than traveling down the struts I don't see the issue...

And, yes, there will probably be a whole episode dedicated to this idea. Probably a hazing ritual of some kind to go all the way down to the deflector assembly to deliver a message and then travel all the way back.

Though, it was a very good chapter in a book...

In the later Oberth's, like TNG era? Probably. Did they do site-to-site transport in the TOS movie era?

It was reported as possible in TOS and was used successfully in "Day of the Dove."

Regardless, it was always a weird head canon for me, since going from the center to the wings to go down to the secondary hull.

What episode of Voyager had that guy working his shift way down at the bottom of the secondary hull, in a small lab?

Odds are any number of crewmen are in that section round the clock and they would only have to climb/beam in/out between shifts and in emergencies. At 2 years post-Voyager, they really have good site-to-site beaming.

Just such a strange design.
