What Makes A Good Trek Fan ?

What makes a good Star Trek fan?
Agreeing with me on all things :bolian:  :bolian:

What makes a bad fan? (*climbs up onto soapbox*) When you make it your mission in life to "prove" that your viewpoint/interpretation of things is the only one, and that everyone else is wrong. When your counter-arguments are about how "stupid" the poster is and/or "laughing in their face" (with insulting use of  and :guffaw:) instead of countering anything they said (usually because they can't)

Also people who can't get over the 2009 film. Hating it's fine. Critique is fine. A few snide comments are fine. Those still crying like babies a year later, who lose sleep over Delta f--king Vega and have to obsessively "prove" how wrong it is using the same tired arguments again and again are not fine.

Also the TOS Fundamentalists who get sandy when that someone interprets a scene or episode from the show in a different way to them, or is influenced by later Trek. (*steps down from soapbox*)

This:
Your friend sounds extremely lame and immature. Tell him to get over himself.

And this:
A good Trek fan remembers that all of this is supposed to be fun, and doesn't take it or themselves too seriously.

Among other things. Even if lording your "superior intellect" over someone else because you know more Star Trek factoids doesn't make you a bad fan, it definitely makes you a creep.

In my opinion, a "good" Star Trek fan doesn't have to be like an obsessive Trekkie (at least the stereotype), he or she merely has to like it to begin with, watch it frequently enough, and become interested in things that Star Trek seems to encourage, such as science, history, and philosophy. The latter three seem to form the essence of Star Trek, in addition to the adventure aspect of it. My opinions, so...

The best Trek fan of course is the one who tries to take the morales from the show(s) and live by them.

Liking show X or show Y is just personal taste and or experience.

I have every Trek movie on DVD, and have collected nearly every series on DVD, but I don't rub it in anyone's faces. Trek is just one of my hobbies, and I feel the worst kind of fan is one who takes it too seriously, and starts arguing with other fans on the Internet.

Oh no they're not!!!!:p

Oh, by the way I have three pair of Star Trek socks and a Star Trek mirror. (All presents by the way)

If you've successfully convinced your little sister to name her pet rabbit "Tribble"...you might be a Trek-Neck.

(Not exaggerating. I actually did that....)

What makes a good trek fan - on this forum?

Criticism towards various things concerning trek.

Consider - if everyone had the same sugary laudatory opinion towards everything star trek, the forum would be boredom personified.

Which Episodes?

Tuvix?
In The Pale Moonlight?
Homeward?

Haha, that's my all time favorite scene in Star Trek. Tuvix on the bridge desperately going from person to person begging people to not let their insane captain kill him. And they all stare blankly at him and do nothing.

I mean seriously I just rewatched it on youtube and it's just gut wrenching. Look it up and watch it if you don't believe me.

Come on guys. Fan is short for fanatic and a dictionary definition of fanatic is
a person motivated by irrational enthusiasm

We fans are allowed to take it seriously and attach undue importance to it. It goes with the territory.
