No I know some of my choices might not sit well

But with McCoy who at times is somewhat distrustful of technology and the EMH who thinks he is better than a Human could create conflict between them, and conflict is good for drama.

As for Wes yes the character would be slightly reworked from is TNG appeareances, but we have someone who is on their first deep space assignment rather than the rest who are seasoned and have seen it before.

By having someone in charge of ship's security and away team security you have character conflict because they'll try and step on each others toes.
