What is your opinion of season 3 as a whole?

Honestly I was disappointed in season 3 but this is a norm for streaming trek, their quality has never measured up to even streaming disney star wars shows. even SN1 season 1 and 2 had it cracks when Tpring kept on showing up for sex with Spock and demanding what she wants in their courtship and this was spock whole arc and it was very clear the show runners already had their favorite characters they plan to shove down our throats. SNW is not really an ensemble.

Also something about the sci fi even in season 1 always came off dry. maybe they need better sound or better music score. they need better tv/film making

I also saw the signs that season 3 will be bad after section 31 got very bad and appalling reviews from fans and critics and the creators of SNW and Section 31 overlap and both were shot at the same time.

but what I feel the most is anger and frustration from the fandom. I grew up in the kelvin trek era and I had to watch people trash and belittle kelvin trek to the point that I stayed away and alone picked it up again and I was gobsmacked by how much superior kelvin trek is to anything in streaming trek. I was angry about the narrative of SNW been this masterpiece when I knew this was not the case so I am happy the veil is off.

This SNW characters do not even have the maturity their kelvin counterparts showed in star trek beyond, it is like SNW characters are ageing backwards and Spock is the worst offender. he is a horny teenager and a joke.

I swear, I wish they had gotten chris pine for the tv show were we saw him every week as Kirk. I never knew chris pine had so much swag and charisma and screen presence. he was so perfect as kirk that he would have been better for TV. May be even more than statner, meanwhile Paul struggles in the role as Kirk and so many other things that snw lacks that kelvin trek already gave us yet that series gets trashed while snw get defended even when we can see the cracks.

people once told me kelvin trek is not real star trek so how can snw be star trek when the show is all about who fell of the love boat this weak. lol

I just hate myself for going with a narrative that was false.

So yes, I am just angry by the fandom hypocrisy. I will see SNW to the end but I am not really expecting greatness. Now star trek 2009, that was great. better cast, better sci fi, better characters, better action, better themes. better at everything.

At least the puppet one hasn't been done before on Trek.

Anticipating some A+ puppeteering.
yes but it is already sort of controversial or shall I say worrying because fans are saying it is another rip off of the buffy and angel universe.

I remember that Angel episode (same time) and while it was not one of my favorites it was one of the best Joss Whedon episodes and unique . Sigh I do not think anyone writing this show has Whedon high level of talent , but good luck to them.

I'm also pretty sure no one on this show is as toxic an individual as Whedon has turned out to be.
sigh...this is one of those cases I have to separate the art from the artist. whedon was a jerk and emotional abusive to women. I am not defending that.

However you cannot deny his talent in writing and creation. In fact I will say the whedon style influences the 2000s greatly after buffy and avengers, everyone tried to copy the whedon thing and even humor that we see in streaming star trek.

Looks like SNW writers are influenced by whedon. didn't subspace rhapsody reference the buffy musical in the episode?

Season 3 was certainly the series’ weakest effort by far, with a lot of the episodes feeling like they were shot from a first or second draft script.

I liked a couple, hated a couple, the rest were varying shades of okay to mediocre.
It reminds me of TOS, though I did enjoy many in TOS season 3. This season of SNW I haven't finished.

Not trying to derail the whole thing here, but:
Whedon was also a Jerk and somewhat abusive to the viewers.
I don't usually believe in the cliché of an artist being a great artist BECAUSE of him being an asshole - usually it just means he's an asshole - but Whedon might be the one exception. Because he's not, like, a great filmmaker or acting coach or visionary or anything.
But his writing is crazy good emotional manipulation, giving the highest of highs, and then the worst of lows.

Then again - the worst I've heard about him was being a massive, massive dick, especially towards actors (actresses!) that disagreed with him. But nothing rapey, violent, exploitative, racist, me-too-ish, defrauding, or anything else that Hollywood is also full of.
Just, like, really harmful words. Which is also the one thing he is professionally known for.

not to derail further, but yes you are right that he mostly used his mouth to say harmful things which can be even more emotionally painful, but there is no record or accusation of him assaulting women both violently or sexually.

the rumour about whedon been a terrible person has been there for years, more than 15 years but it was Charisma Carpenter open letter or op-ed that did the final damage to the point of no return for Whedon.

that been said his geek tv filmography is nothing short of near excellent. remember he also did Firefly that was very critical acclaimed and is a cult classic. the firefly fandom could have been what star trek become after 1969

now imagine if SNW had the quality of Firefly? we are talking the best of TNG , DS9 and TOS level because that is how acclaimed Firefly was in terms of writing and depth. we cannot even put SNW S1 and S2 there. Firefly was that well received across the board.

I liked it slightly less than S1 and 2 but more than anything else apart from TOS (not including movies in this case).
