I love sour. I've been known to drink vinegar, and I'll take a pickle (a real deli kind) over a candy bar any day. Salty is a close second.

I had a doctor once who claimed you could tell someone's personality type from the tastes they preferred. I don't remember any of his associations, except for sour-loving people being the most intelligent (and handsome).

Are pickles considered sour? I've always considered them salty. Also, I love pickles, along with pickled eggs, pickled beets, and pickled bologna.

Can't do pickled bologna at all, but I can eat pickled eggs (not in great numbers, though) and actual pickles, I just don't like the bread-and-butter flavored ones and never have. I think most pickles fall somewhere between sour and salty with elements of both...at least that's always been my impression of a kosher dill or sliced hamburger chips when I eat them.

The usual store-bought pickles are packed in brine, and are mostly salty. The naturally fermented kind are sour. At least, to me. Like a good sauerkraut; it shouldn't just taste like salty cabbage.
