I greatly prefer savoury things, but when I get a craving it is for something sweet like fruit. I'm quite partial to pears.

Piquance (pungence/spicyness). Pretty much manage to inject either chillie or some kind of intense asian flavor into everything.

I have no sweet tooth.

I can't choose. As long as it's strong or rich I'm happy. If it's sweet I want it to be super sweet. If it's spicy I want it spicy enough to clear my sinuses. If it's garlicky I should know I ate garlic even after 3 days and as many showers. Chocolate needs to be at least 70%. Coffee should be strong enough to kill a small child.

Yes!

I picked sweet, but umami is a close second.

I have to confess that I usually like my sour incredibly sour. If I'm not tearing up and making physically impossible facial contortions it's not my kind of sour. Kick, baby. It's all about the kick.

I do love bitter but since the only time I have it is the odd grapefruit and beer it can't really be voted for, LOL. If beer was nutritious as opposed to bad for you it would be one of my most dearly beloved food groups.

Yep. I'm a bitter lemonade person.

I like bitter things all round, bitter lemonade, bitters themselves, quinine stuffs, excellent brands of gin, MARMALADE, cranberries with minimal sugar content, green olives on the young side of marination, fresh rocket lots and lots of fresh rocket and BEER beer beer and more beer. Bit of cheese next to all these things goes well.

Bitter lemon, and dry cheese. :D

If I had to rank them, I would go with:

1. Umami
2. Piquance
3. Sweetness/Saltiness (can't really choose)
4. Sourness
5. Bitterness

I have no real love for bitter tastes. If I want something sour, I want it really sour. Same with piquance/spice. If a recipe calls for garlic, I will double the amount. If a recipe calls for onions, I will keep out the onions and use garlic instead.

I absolutely love savory flavors, though.

I greatly prefer balanced blends to strong single tastes. To much in one dimension and I don't really dig it. Examples of stuff I like:

- sweet & sour e.g. sugar-coated "coke-bottle" sour sweets
- sweet & sour & bitter e.g. a good Tom Collins or G&T with a slice
- salty & sweet e.g. salted caramel ice cream
- spicy & salty & sweet e.g. kung pao chicken
- umami & spicy & salty e.g. some ramen dishes
- bitter & sweet e.g. dark chocolate

I guess the dimension I enjoy the least (i.e. need it only in relatively small proportion in any dish) would be that slight mustiness of cumin/mace/fenugreek/etc. I suppose that comes under pungency, but there are other spices I enjoy, so it's more specific than that.

Just for the sake of not sounding weird, I voted sweet. Of course when I crave things, I automatically go for chocolate or caramel. However, on the rare occasion I'll crave crisps or chips if I need to get my starch on. *lol* Sometimes, though; I do crave the metallic flavour. In that case, I'll have a steak.
