Okay, time for a change of pace. A writer/director who's never hit it big but has a very loyal cult following and a series of films that all exist in the same "View Askew" universe, gets hired on to direct a big studio film he didn't write which is downright awful and bombs, and his reaction toward the negative reaction makes things even worse.

Clerks.

I still think Kevin Smith could have written on hell of a Superman movie & directed.

I`d say SModcast because I think it`s the best thing he`s done in years, but I guess that doesn`t count.

Dogma had me laughing in the opening scene-and I kept laughing. Few movies have ever made me do that-I find most toilet humor just that-worthy of the toilet-and little of the "makes you think while you laugh" type out there at all. Which isn't to say that I don't find Jay and Silent Bob funny-even I can laugh at a bit of crudity handled well...

I think Mallrats is the funniest, but Chasing Amy is the best.

By the way...Neither Jersey Girl nor Zack and Miri were part of the Askewniverse.

Cop Out truly was embarrassingly bad, though.

I'm torn between Mallrats and Chasing Amy. One of which my wife likes and the other she hates.

Haven't seen all of them, but I thought Dogma was the best that I've seen. The Clerks films are also fun:)

Never cared for Smith much, though I do like Clerks and, to a lesser degree, Mallrats. I think when he keeps his focus small, the movie tends to be more successful. When he tries to imbue his projects with "meaning", ot attempts to make a statement, the film fails (for me at least).

Clerks gets my vote. The sequel wasn't too bad but was kinda forgettable.

I really liked Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy. After that was a steep dropoff for me.

Dogma
was OK, but it seemed too long and had tons of humor attempts falling short. I'll never get over Alanis Morrisette as God. Just AWFUL.

I thought Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was dreadful and very hard to watch.

Clerks II was a mere shell of the original. It just didn't have that same special feel.

Everything else isn't even worth mentioning.

I think Clerks II is easily the best movie he's ever made, and I'd love to see him tackle those characters again in another five to ten years.

Also good, Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Still Clerks.

Clerks is impressive not just because it's a good movie but because of how it was done. Anyone could scrape together enough money to film a movie at a convenience store but would it be as good as Clerks?

Dogma, probably. It's got so many amazing moments, really.

Next is probably Clerks, followed by Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (because it's so amazingly silly, I guess ).

I didn't really Chasing Amy alll that much at all when I saw it. I haven't seen any of the others to date.

Tough choice. I'm kind of stuck between Dogma and Clerks for first position, with a very special mention to Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. If I had to vote, though, I would probably vote for Dogma. I just love the movie. So I will vote Dogma.
