Dogma.. it perfectly represents my view on religion.

Plus it has Alan Rickman as an Angel.. 'nuff said!

Dogma is closely followed by Clerks II though.. another hilarious movie of his.

Sadly "An Evening with Kevin Smith" is not on the list.. granted, not a movie but these two hours had me laughing hysterically at some of the stories or witty remarks by Smith.. awesome! :techman:

Chasing Amy is the best, although Clerks is great.

Mallrats is terrible, though. It's been a long time since I've seen Dogma. I didn't like it all that much then, but it's certainly been a while.

I like most of them to some degree or another (haven't seen Cop Out and don't intend to), but it's Dogma by a mile...which is odd since I can't stand Linda Fiorentino, but I suppose a little Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Matt Damon, Salma Hayek and George Carlin can go a hell of a long way.

All the Askewniverse flicks are good, but I also voted for Dogma. It's the only one I own on DVD.

I agree with FPAlpha on "represents my view on religion", and I'm an atheist.

It's also great in that it has what we might consider an "all star" cast, yet isn't bogged down by it.

I'm a bit surprised that Dogma is the runaway winner. I liked the film for what it was, but good lord that script and direction were pretty sloppy. It was like they filmed an early draft.

It was Dogma, untile I saw JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK! Laugh my @$$ off funny from start to finish, followed closely by Clerks II and the aformentioned Dogma.

By the way...Neither Jersey Girl nor Zack and Miri were part of the Askewniverse.

I never said they were.

"A writer/director who's never hit it big but has a very loyal cult following and a series of films that all exist in the same "View Askew" universe, gets hired on to direct a big studio film he didn't write which is downright awful and bombs, and his reaction toward the negative reaction makes things even worse."

You saying he has a series of films that "all" exist in the Askewniverse, while only differentiating Cop Out, implies otherwise. Maybe that's not what you intended, but it's how it reads.

Best Movie: Clerks
Most Fun Movie: Jay and Silent Bob
Best Actual Plot: Dogma
Worst Movie: Jersey Girl

^I really didn't mind Jersey Girl and I'm not sure I understand the criticism. Liv Tyler is always good to watch and it was the first and only time I've ever seen George Carlin play it straight.

I've only recently got around to watching Zach & Miri and was actually surprised at how funny it was. Honestly, I hadn't seen a new, genuinely funny comedy in years prior to this film.
Clerks 2 was another pleasant surprise...could have done without the donkey show though.

The problem with Jersey Girl is it's a formulaic rom-com-dram and if I didn't know in advance Kevin Smith wrote and directed it I never would have guessed.

^Three.

It was a tough choice, though. I could easily have voted for the Clerks or Dogma instead.

Perhaps the fact that I don't normally watch films like that negated any sense of a familiar formula. Not that I couldn't see where it was going after 5mins in, but surprise plot twists aren't generally a requirement for me when watching a film like this.

As far as the poll so far goes, it's a little misleading in the sense that the votes only tally which is the favourite, not a grading of the films' popularity rating in relation to one another, if you follow me. If it was one of those polls where you could vote for two or three I think we'd see a much closer race between Dogma, Clerks and possibly Chasing Amy or Clerks II.

Me too, but I think Clerks II is a culmination of so much of Smith's career that it still stands as the pinacle IMO. Dante and Randall are his two most believable characters and remains my favorite movie of 2006 (which had a fair share of movies that I loved).

My favorite movie of his is probably Dogma.

But my favorite overall work of his is the Clerks Animated Series. Hilarious show.

Dogma is my absolute favorite. I love the premise and the way it was handled. Runner-up vote goes to Clerks 2, which was hysterical. Oddly enough, I tried to watch Clerks (the original) a few months back and couldn't even sit through the entire film. Not sure why. Zack and Miri was entertaining but not fantastic. I haven't watched Mallrats, Chasing Amy or Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in several years.
