What is up with all the flamethrowers?

The first instance of bridge equipment gone bad that I can recall was in Where No Man Has Gone Before, where consoles are exploding and in flames as Enterprise crosses the galactic barrier.

In Balance of Terror, we saw what looks like rocks and plaster dust rain down onto the bridge of the Romulan BOP every time it took a hit.

They must have stolen the bridge rocks technology from us during the Romulan War.

Obviously in the 32nd century they still haven't gotten cooling systems right for their computers. Burnham will have to put in a request for better thermal paste for Discovery.

I'm not too crazy about the flamethrowers either. You think that circuitry would have melted easily since they've been used too much or something. You almost wonder why a crew-member didn't catch fire or something. Yeah it shows danger, but there are other ways to do it rather than turning the bridge into an inferno all the time.

I really hope DSC gives us some answers regarding that ship. IIRC, it comes from the same time period the Discovery is now in...

I don't really know what answers are necessary. It was a Federation timeship from the 29th Century involved in the Temporal Wars; the post-Burn Federation is through those wars. And it was a single episode that aired twenty years ago. I don't think we need much more info than that.

It may not be necessary, I'm just curious to know more about it.

And I admit I probably wouldn't even be thinking about the ship if it didn't happen to come from DSC's current time frame.

Bryce: Captain, help me, I caught fire!
Burnham: Stop, drop, and roll!

I like that Burnham is the one personally solving it but "stop drop and roll" doesn't look cool enough. They will need some type of fire suppression system that creates a cool visual (kind of like Burnham's cone of silence).

Way to spoil season 5. All bridge scenes when the ship is under attack will have Brys and Rhys running around in the background cause their clothes are on fire.

LOL! That's pretty funny. Yeah, a fire suppression system that works too, and if those fail, maybe some good old fashioned fire extinguishers should do the trick!

I have to be honest, as much of a DSC fan as I am (it's still my 3rd-favorite series)...the bridge flames and the turbolift interiors are amongst the most ridiculous, mind-numbingly stupid things in all the franchise, at least in terms of

1. How much they distract me personally
2. How much the producers/designers should have absolutely known better

Enterprise actually established that by the 32nd century, ships have "bigger on the inside" TARDIS style tech. While it didn't fit into the 23rd century scenes, the turbolift does now in Discovery. Somewhere inside Discovery, Zareh's probably still falling.

Not really, because they all get around the ship using their transporter combadges now. Turbolifts should be nothing more than a backup system, the equivalent of the stairs you take when the elevators are out, and thus there's no reason whatsoever to turn them into some elaborate transdimensional fun ride.

They doubled-down on the Turbolift Dimension after its first appearance. I'm wondering if they'll do the same with the flamethrowers.

suggestion for a TMP remake:

SPOCK: I have successfully penetrated the next chamber of the alien's Interior, and I am witnessing some sort of dimensional image which I believe to be a representation of V'Ger's home planet. I am passing through a connecting tunnel. Apparently a kind of plasma-energy conduit. Possibly a field coil for gigantic imaging systems. Or I might be inside of USS Discovery's infrastructure. It could be either one.

Not really. Nothing about the turbolifts makes much sense.
