What is the most EPIC song you have ever heard?

Words fail me when I try to describe how much I love Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I mean, I've always loved Green Day, but I remember watching the video premiere on MTV, and I was all "Billie Joe? Is it really you? Wow", jaw on the floor.

Epic. Totally epic. :luvlove:

The mashup version is pretty epic too.

:D

But you can't beat this.

Verdi / Karajan: The real wrath of God.

Truly a work that makes the composer's equivalent of the average Joe green with envy.

The entire "Concert for George" is epic as events go, but this is the show-stopping song: Paul McCartney, Ringo, Eric Clapton (playing lead guitar as he originally did on the song for the Beatles' white album), also Jeff Lynne, Billy Preston, George Harrison's son, Dhani, plus many others.

I loved the songs at the end of both Mass Effect games.

Well, Rush has about ten of them....

I will add one of my favortie songs of all time:

Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here by Porcupine Tree

I find the opening number to the animated Hunchback of Notre Dame to be pretty epic. A good song to turn up your volume to. The church bells and monk-like choir especially add to the effect. What really gets me is the line at the end, "Who is the monster and who is the man?"

My other favorite epic song is Everlong by the Foo Fighters. It's just awesome and transports me to another place every time I hear it.

Did someone say Nightwish?

Tarja :adore: :adore:
I absolutely adore that song. One of my favourite Nightwish songs.

Creek Mary's Blood is pretty epic too, imo. :)

Carl Orff - Carmina Burana - O Fortuna!

You're welcome. :D Oh, wait, that was the name of the singer... :o

The rest of the piece is literally epic: all 31 minutes of it. :bolian:

Insert!

Bombastic Peter Dickson VOICE-over!

HERE!

And Zion, I love Boulevard/Wonderwall. Really well done, too.
The whole mashup album "American Edit" is worth a listen.

Epic in subject if not i n length is Queen's '39. Well, you don't get much more epic than a song about the human impact of excessive time dilation, do you?:)
[yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAnpGXPYAIQ[/yt]

On a Queen-related theme, this one's pretty epic. Spoilers for BSG.

Here's a couple that are a bit different in tone. First, the epic, beautiful "Baba Yetu" from Civilization IV:

And to prove that you don't need an electric guitar solo to be epic, Gordon Lightfoot sings about the building of a nation in "Canadian Railroad Trilogy:"

"When the green, dark forest was too silent to be real..."

It's still the best video game music theme of the last 10 years. An awesome video too.

In terms of sheer scope you'd be hard pressed to beat Metallica's face-meltingly awesome "Orion."

Also, at fortyish minutes, Jethro Tull's equally awesome "Thick as a Brick" probably qualifies :D
