What is the most EPIC song you have ever heard?

I've been aware of that combo for quite a long time but had never seen it until now. Epic, indeed. :techman:

I still think the song stands pretty well on its own, though a bit of volume never hurts. (Okay, lots of volume.)

And I love M'Sharak's choice.
:D

I was debating Time and Eclipse before settling for the Smashing Pumpkins' song.
Also would have been good choices, both.

Seriously though...when I think of the real meaning of the word 'epic', I think of a story. And there is no finer storyteller in rock than Bruce Springsteen.

And one of the awesome of his stories ever set to music is Jungleland. Here is a clip of that song, from what is widely regarding by Springsteen fans to be one of the (if not THE) most awesome show he ever played - The Capitol Theatre, Passaic, NJ, September 19, 1978. The tape is old and in B&W...but there is no getting around the fact that this is one seriously epic story, set in a seriously epic song:

Despite the fact that I adore Queen as well, I would even place this above Bohemian Rhapsody, chiefly because the story being told here is truly epic...and while Bohemian Rhapsody is a song with very complex harmonies, etc, I wouldn't say the story itself is 'epic'. And Jungleland also has a few different complex musical changeups, etc. :)

Did someone say Nightwish?

You know, this is the first time I have ever heard or seen these guys. I never even knew they existed. And when I watched your video I had two thoughts -

1. These guys should be scoring scifi movies.
2. I do not understand a single word that girl is singing, so I can't tell if the story is 'epic' or not...but, see #1.

I looked them up on wiki and now see that they are from Finland - maybe that's why I didn't understand a word she sung. But I actually did like them. I had no idea that there was a genre called 'symphonic metal'. But I am actually going to watch more of their stuff on YouTube. I'm tentatively intrigued. :)

EDIT: Okay. This must be the first power metal band in the history of the 'verse to cover Andrew Lloyd Webber. I am just....I don't know what I am. Wow.

But maybe 'shock & awe' would about cover it. I mean, ANDREW. LLOYD. FRAKKIN'. WEBBER. :guffaw:

Unbelievable.

The YouTube page for that particular video has lyrics in the description so that you can sing along with Tarja Turunen - and yes, she is singing in English, but with a very thick Finnish accent. :) I heard that she had left the band not too long ago - I understand that some fans are still upset. Personally, I feel that Tarja makes Scandinavian symphonic power metal sound like epic Scandinavian symphonic power metal. :klingon:

It's the bit from about 5:35 in the video onwards with which some internet people will be most familiar. :D (I used to have it as my ringtone on my mobile phone. Most Epic Ringtone Ever. :bolian:)

I've also heard their cover of "Walking In The Air" (that song from "The Snowman") which, actually, was pretty epic in itself. :)

Nightwish. Amazing band. I actually discovered them when I was looking for an orchestral version of 'Walking In The Air' I'd heard on local TV. I think their version's amazing

Tarja Turinen was the original vocalist, big on the opera scene too. With a new vocalist they cut an album ('Dark Passion Play'?) that has the song I mentioned above, 'Amaranth'. Check out its clip on YT.

prob not the most epic I have ever heard but one of my very favorites right now

Words fail me when I try to describe how much I love Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I mean, I've always loved Green Day, but I remember watching the video premiere on MTV, and I was all "Billie Joe? Is it really you? Wow", jaw on the floor.

Epic. Totally epic. :luvlove:

My absolute favorite cant be found on youtube and similar sites. Its on spotify though. anyway, The Woods - Wasted or Six feet under (cant decide)

Ennio Morricone finale.

If we're talking Morricone, then I'd have to say that this is one of the most epic pieces of music I've ever heard, from one of the best films ever made...

...and I'd be remiss if I didn't qualify that by mentioning Metallica's brilliant use of it as an opener to their shows. Here's the opening from the S&M show they did with Michael Kamen and the San Fransisco Symphony Orchestra...

Gives me goosebumps every time.

Excellent choices, people. I love most of them.

But you can't beat this.
