What is Lucas up to?

His sister was hot and they didn't "grow up as brother and sister" so it's really on icky in a "we share DNA" level not in a "we grew up together, fought with one another, were bathed together as todlers, etc." level.

Yeah, I can't imagine Lucas announcing, "Star Wars: The 'Flowers in the Attic' edition".

If they are going to do more in the SW verse, then why OH why cant they just continue with episodes 7-9????

Yeah, there's plenty of novels, games and comics which cover the post-film period, and although Lucas has the right to override them, Lucas has also stated he believes Star Wars begins and ends with Anakin/Vader.

Re: Star Wars Spectacular! - July 25th at 2 p.m.

I agree with #'s 1,2,4.
Also I think we'll see clips from season 2's first episode premiering on Cartoon Network October 2, 2009 in its original aspect ratio 2.35:1.
The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network is shown in a 16:9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio, cropped from its original aspect ratio (OAR) of 2.35:1

In the UK Series 1 started 16:9 on Sky Movies, then switched over to 2.35:1 mid series.

Because the story has been told and it would be pointless?

Not on film, it hasn't. Or is every movie that's ever been based on a novel "pointless"? :rommie:

I'd watch Eps 7-9 simply for the fun of seeing Han, Leia and Luke recast. If Trek can do it and do it well, so can Wars.

More evidence that Star Wars would be better off if it were taken away from George Lucas. Too bad it's not owned by a publicly traded company, like Star Trek is, where cold-blooded but intelligent business decisions can override personal idiocy/lunacy...

IF it hasn't been on film then I haven't seen it. And I, like many others out there, would pay to see it.

*Has the books in her bookcase, and can just as easily read them, but WANTS them on film*

I don't think any book, game or comic will ever be adapted to film in the Star Wars brand. Maybe on TV, it could work (Doctor Who has done this recently with some of it's novels), but I doubt we'll see Thrawn, Mara Jade etc. on the big screen. The best we can hope for are Expanded Universe cameos ala the Aayla Secura character.

BTW anybody seen photos of Lucas lately? While he looked healthy making the prequels, he's become rather overweight lately :( He looks like that guy playing Harry Potter's uncle now.

Do you really want a 7-9 written and directed by Lucas with zero interest in character and 100% interest in special effects (half which aren't even convincing)?

Who wouldn't want to see Admiral Thrawn & Captain Palleon in the Timothy Zahn novels.

Those were really good books, they would be good for 1/2 billion bucks worldwide take if they got made, they are leaving money on the table by not making them.

I wouldn't want to see them as movies, for one thing they'd have to cut half the storyline to make the movies and for another the actors are too old to play their old roles. And I don't think recasting would work either for that matter.

Recasting seemed to work for Trek.

Who could you get?

Luke Skywalker - Ryan Reynolds

Han Solo - Johnny Depp

Princess Leia - Jessica Beil

Lando - Will Smith

Mon Montha - Cate Blanchett

Captian Palleon - Sam Elliot, with big grey mustache

Admiral Thrawn - Bruce Greenwood :) (He would be Blue so you would hardly know who it was)

I was thinking this will probably end up having something to do with the rumored second animated series that Lucasfilm is working on.

I would prefer it if he showed interest in the characters aswell, but I will take what I can get.

I read them many years ago and thought they were the best of all the books written after ROTJ.
Oh yes, me too.

Read them back in the 90s when they were originally released and nearly got seizures thinking how long will it take before the next one will be released :lol:

They are good (still some of the best) but they have one big flaw.. Zahn has written Thrawn to be this unbeatable master strategist and tactician who can read psychology of an alien race and develop applicable tactics to exploit their weakness.
In every engagement the Alliance fought him they either lost or paid dearly for a stalemate and only the main heroes thwarted his plans when they were on site to fight him.

This was the flaw.. only the heroes could defeat him which meant they had to be there (almost always by coincidence) and after the 2nd or 3rd time it stretched credibility very far and ruined it a bit.

However the characters themselves were ace.. i'd love to see Thrawn and Pellaeon on the screen.. especially the scene where Thrawn is questioning a crewman after a failed attempt to catch Luke (he had a crewman executed before because he failed in his task and then tried to shift blame).
He lets him live, promotes him and assigns him to find a countermeasure to the tactic Luke used.. Pellaeon is present and thinks by himself that this is the new Imperium.

Awesome scene :techman:

Thrawn is a good character but I'm not sure how well he'd transfer to the big screen. After all he'd just be a guy with blue paint and red eye contacts. Not exactly on the level of imagination and fantasy of say, Jabba the Hutt or even Vader. Even the less visually interesting villains at least had 'sabers (With the exception of Tarkin).

However the Noghri could easily be done in CG.

I've always thought Timothy Dalton would be a good match for Thrawn IMO. Sure, he's getting old but Thrawn's age was never really stated anyway. Palleon is often drawn like Otto Von Bismarck, but I prefered the mustacheless version from the comic adaptation. In that form he kind of looked a bit like Robert Loggia.
