Spoilers What is Everyone's Thoughts on Recasting Actors (new series)

I don't want to see any Trek characters recast with AI in any series or movies, at all, ever.

I don't want to see any Trek characters recast with new actors, unless they're in an alternate universe like Chris Pine, jumping back 30 years like Ewan McGregor in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, or playing a minor role like that dude in Andor.

Yes I know Saavik was recast for a movie, I still don't think it's a good idea.

The poster was asking what everyone would think of a prospective new TV series based around Sisko, a la Picard, with Sisko's role played/de-aged using AI.
If true it almost couldn‘t have been worded more confusingly.

In any case, it‘s obviously playing with the fact of what was just done on Starfleet Academy, which makes it an unnecessary spoiler for an episode that just came out mere days ago.

After the "Lower Decks" episode focussed on DS9 characters, I was half-expecting an animated revival of DS9 when LD ended. But Avery has always been confident about his non-participation in associated projects. The Terry Farrell-hosted "Making of..." documentary at the end of Season One had to omit all mention of Sisko Sr from it, so I can well imagine him not approving use of his likeness in an AI follow-up episodic series.

as AI. (with Brooks' blessings)

Right now I'm neutral about it. Love to see what the board thinks

First, this should be in the Future of Trek forum, as this is just your idea and has nothing to do with a new series about an AI Sisko.

Second, any AI of Avery Brooks’s likeness would need to be okayed by him. And that ain’t happening,

Just to be clear that this is

I don't have a problem per-se in recasting actors -- they did it with a lot of TOS characters already, including Paul Wesley playing a younger Kirk, not to mention the complete re-creation of minor characters. We've had younger actors play main characters before too in flashbacks

But when I saw Chiwetel Ejiofor's name in the credits I thought "no, surely they haven't recast him". And they didn't, but that gave me an instinctive view on what I would think.

There has been a great deal of backlash to AI over the last several months, not delivering on promises, consuming resources, and having economics that just make no sense. That said, The US government seems to be clearing the way for more AI usage, and there is a real possibility AI representations will be rife in media. There is no good outcome: a computer deciding how to do an Avery Brooks style performance? The man is in the twilight of his life, and I can't say how many times I have expected to see his obituary in the news. If a real actor were cast to play Sisko, I can argue with it, maybe hating it, perhaps loving it. But it would have the virtue of being a human performance by someone who could adapt.
