What if...

I would regret it, yes! There are so many things I wanted to do, but never gotten around to doing it. I just realized I should be grateful for being alive in the first place. I had no choice in whether I should be a live or not and yet here I am. I might as well enjoy it rather than feeling guilty. Guilt is really a useless emotion.

Quite fascinating. Kestra and RandyS seem to be the only ones who took the question slightly seriously, all other evade it like it's pretty uncomfortable to think about it for them.

I almost got ran over by a truck the other day, and I thought "Wow, that could have been it."

Maybe an Internet thread like this can't evoke that feeling in most of you Internet folks. Or maybe it did but you just didn't want to admit it.

But yeah well, just let me say this: every day could be your last day, so don't waste it.

What actually scares me about your replies is the "If we're all dead tomorrow, nothing matters." That's the very attitude that leads to looting, chaos and destruction. Would you just waste your last day with getting stoned or robbing old ladies or maybe even killing people for fun just because it wouldn't matter the next day?

I took the question very seriously, thank you very much. Tomorrow is my sister's birthday. If the world ended today, that would suck for her.

As for regrets, they're a waste of energy.

I'm sorry. Was I not supposed to? I can come up with a smart-ass comment if you'd like, but this thread didn't seem to call for that.

You'd get one "aw, fuck" from me, and then I would work to act on my advice in the time remaining, and I'm serious.

I think you took away precisely the wrong message.

The future isn't guaranteed for any of us, and you can't change the past. So what's the point in stressing yourself over regrets, or obsessing over the future? That's not to say you shouldn't plan and have goals in life, but you also have to accept that your plans probably won't turn out just the way you wanted. Life should be enjoyed as it comes, not something that's so heavily structured you make yourself sick with stress whenever your plans are waylaid.

If I die tomorrow, is there anything I could've done before that that would make a difference? I don't think so. I try to do the best I can with the time I have, and I think time spent worrying about things you did wrong is a waste. Economists tell you not to send good money after bad--well, don't send good time after bad, either.

. . . Any time I think about the past, I always think, "Those were the days."
Yes, those were the days, my friend. We thought they’d never end. We’d sing and dance forever and a day . . .

(Shit, here we go with the jokey song lyrics again.)

JarodRusell, I know exactly how you feel. I thought I was going to die once...I mean in a really bad way. AFter that I got PTSD for awhile. I was really anxious all the time and coudln't watch violent movies for a long time. Strange enough...the only show I could watch was all of the Star Trek.

You often come off as disingenuous and antagonistic on the forums so that's going to affect the thought and consideration people put into replying to you. You also provided little context for the original question and didn't answer the question yourself in your original post.

I don't think the replies in this thread are indicative of a problematic mindset, but are a good example of the way various factors can influence people's responses.

1) "If nothing we do matters, then everything we do matters!"

2) @ JarodRussell, regret the things you have done, not the things you haven't.

3) Despite our conflicted history here, I hope you will at least believe me when I say I am glad that you were not hit by that truck and are still with us.
